NORTHLAND Gardening - August - Week 3
🌿🌼🌿🌸🌿🌷🌿🌼🌿🌸🌿🌷🌿🌼🌿
Get spring-ready this August!
• Prepare vegetable beds by adding compost and organic matter to improve soil health
• If you have heavy clay soil, improve it now with compost to boost drainage before spring planting.
• Finish pruning roses and deciduous fruit trees before new growth begins
• Feed citrus and feijoas to support a strong spring flush
• Plant strawberries, rhubarb, and seed potatoes while conditions are ideal
• Sow cool-season crops like lettuce, silverbeet, peas, coriander, and radish
• Start tomatoes, capsicums, and eggplants in a greenhouse or warm sheltered spot ready for spring
Pro Tip: Get on top of weeds, slugs, and snails now. As temperatures rise, both plants and pests become more active. Adding mulch can help suppress weeds, retain moisture, and give your garden a healthy head start into spring 💡
August is one of the most important months in the Northland garden - small jobs done now can pay off with stronger growth and better harvests in the months ahead🌱
