A sharp cutter makes all the difference.

Sharpening the Irons Shear Scraper is quick and easy. The key is to keep the sharpening card straight up and down, don't roll it over. Once one cutting edge becomes dull, simply rotate the cutter head to a fresh edge and continue turning.
With three usable cutting surfaces on each cutter, you'll spend less time sharpening and more time creating.

Terry from Timberly Woodturning is a great friend of Woodcut Tools and has been involved with us for many years 🇳🇿

Over the years, Terry has helped us with product testing, ideas, and feedback on many of our Woodcut products. Through his business, Timberly Woodturning, he also distributes Woodcut Tools here in New Zealand. On top of that, he’s an incredibly talented woodturner.

In this video, Terry talks through one of our favourite pieces he has created, made from pōhutukawa timber, inspired by the pōhutukawa tree itself, known here in New Zealand as the New Zealand Christmas tree.

A beautiful piece with a strong connection to home, craftsmanship, and nature.

A couple weeks ago, we had a special visitor in Hawke’s Bay, Emiliano Achaval all the way from Hawaii 🌺
George spent the day in the workshop with us, learning more about woodturning and enjoying some one-on-one tutoring from Emiliano. Watching an 11-year-old’s confidence grow on the lathe with guidance from an experienced turner was something pretty special.
Thank you, Emiliano, for sharing your knowledge, encouragement, and passion for woodturning with the next generation.
We think George might be hooked now 😊

When you have timber this stunning, it’s a shame to turn most of it into shavings. Coring allows you to create multiple bowls from a single blank, giving you more pieces to gift, sell, or enjoy.

Sharpening your bowl gouge to a 40/40 grind can help improve control and produce cleaner cuts, but getting a consistent result freehand can take practice. In this video, Troy Grimwood demonstrates how to achieve the popular 40/40 grind using the Woodcut Tru-Grind Original sharpening system.
Troy also shares useful tips on avoiding heel bruising, helping you protect your timber surface and improve your finishing cuts. A simple setup, repeatable results, and advice you can apply straight away in your own workshop.

Our friends at Neureiter Maschinen und Werkzeuge are opening their brand new Drechselzentrum in Kirchstetten, creating a dedicated space where turners can explore new tools, watch live demonstrations, learn from experienced makers, and connect with others who share the same passion for woodturning.
