A simple replacement that makes a big difference.

This loading dock had a dock shelter that was no longer providing the protection and performance the site required. I mean just look at it! 😜

Our team removed the damaged shelter and installed a new solution designed to improve weather sealing, loading efficiency, and loading dock presentation.

Last week, our team came together across every branch to support Daffodil Day. Through morning teas, donations, and wearing yellow, we raised $2,572 for the Cancer Society.

Cold storage myth:

“Switching to LED lighting will solve our energy problem.”

It can help.

But it is rarely the whole answer.

Lighting matters in cold storage because it affects energy use in two ways:

It uses power.

And it can add heat that the refrigeration system then needs to remove.

So yes, cold-rated LED lighting can be a smart upgrade.

But if a freezer door is opening hundreds of times a day, a dock area is not sealing properly, or warm air is constantly entering the space, lighting will only solve part of the problem.

The best energy reviews look at the full picture:

Lighting.
Refrigeration.
Insulation.
Door speed.
Seal performance.
Traffic flow.
Loading practices.

Energy efficiency is rarely about one single fix.

It is about understanding how the whole cold storage area is operating.

One thing we keep noticing in cold storage facilities:

Energy loss is not always coming from the obvious place.

When energy costs rise, it is natural to look straight at the refrigeration system.

But during site visits, some of the first opportunities are often found around the building envelope.

Door openings.
Panel junctions.
Service penetrations.
Loading areas.
Seals that are no longer performing the way they should.

Individually, they may look like not much.

Together, they can make temperature control harder than it needs to be.

For cold storage operators, one of the most useful questions to ask is:

Where is warm air getting in, and where is cold air escaping?

That answer can often point to practical improvements before major capital spend is considered.

If you are reviewing cold storage energy use, do not just look at the plant room. Look at the openings, seals and traffic areas too.
