Good luck to Josh Hill competing in the upcoming Toyota 86 trophy series

Keep an eye out for the JK's Engineering logo on the side

Sixteen-year-old Josh Hill will be aiming to take some impressive form from his most recent events into the forthcoming Toyota 86 Trophy Series.

Hill, from Queenstown, recently completed his first race series outside of karts – winning Class 3 of the Jackson Orchard Sprint Series aboard his Toyotas 86 and in the process the Toyota 86 Grant Aitken Perpetual Trophy.

He was supported in his campaign by a couple of notable names – Paul Blomqvist and former Toyota 86 Championship star William Exton - and says it was a significant help as he moved from karting into circuit racing.

“The Orchard Sprint Series was a great start for moving up to cars from karts, which I have been competing in since I was seven,” he explained.

Extremely sad news.

We have over 15 substations built or renovated with Phil in the past 10 years.

A good guy who will be missed.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Phil Johnston.

Phil was the definition of a community man — a passionate electrician, a proud Southlander, and someone who truly loved the game of rugby and his family. Whether it was at his club, Invercargill Blues, opening up the referee rooms, running the bar at countless Southland Stags matches, or quietly helping clubs and Rugby Southland with electrical work big or small, Phil always gave back to the game he loved.

One of his most lasting legacies is the recent conversion to LED lighting at Les George Oval. Phil was instrumental in driving this project, helping future-proof a facility that means so much to our rugby community, one he spent hundreds of hours at over the years.

On the field, Phil proudly represented Southland on 80 occasions between 1988 and 1995, career highlights came in 1994 when Phil played against South Africa and won the NPC Division two later that year.

Our thoughts are with Phil’s family and loved ones at a time that is meant to be joyous for many. His contribution, generosity and passion will not be forgotten.

Moe mai rā. Rest in peace, Phil.

A massive effort fundraising for the Movember men's health charity by a few of the boys last month, fundraising $2278, which was matched by JK's for a total of $4556 donated

Steve was top fundraiser with $750 raised alone

Thanks to our friends at Distinction Invercargill he won dinner and nights accommodation, which he has passed on as they probably won't let his 3 dogs join him.
