Thirty years ago, Fendt introduced the Vario transmission and plenty of people thought it was a bit different. Fast forward to today and continuously variable transmissions are everywhere.

Farm Trader has had a proper look over the brand new Massey Ferguson 8S Xtra, and this one is extra special. It’s the first one in New Zealand.

The review digs into the stuff that actually matters in a big tractor, fuel use, comfort, visibility, hydraulics, stability and how it feels in the cab after a long day. With the 24cm gap between the engine and cab, 68dB cab noise level, 3.4m³ of cab space, up to 205L/min hydraulic flow and a 10 tonne rear lift, there’s plenty here for contractors and larger operators to like.

Last week we caught up with to check out his ED-C4500. It has now done 650ha of autumn sowing and performing well, especially in contouring rough ground and trash clearance as this clip shows.

Check out the pics of the annual grass sown last month and how even the 5” row spacings have established.
