PROJECT FEATURE | Loxley Apartments, Takapuna

Over 500 lineal metres of UNEX balustrade and screening systems were supplied and installed across the Loxley Apartments development in Takapuna - spanning two five-storey buildings and 53 residences.

The project included a wide range of applications, from Hampton balustrades and walkway barriers to Arena-Points frameless glass systems, vertical privacy screens, gates, handrails, and heavy-duty car park barriers.

With multiple loading requirements, fixing methods, and interfaces across the development, a coordinated system-based approach was key to achieving consistency, compliance, and efficient installation across every level.

Fabrication and installation were completed , an authorised UNEX fabricator, helping streamline coordination from design through to delivery.

Beautiful views deserve balustrades that don’t get in the way.

When the architecture is this considered, the balustrade has to earn its place. Really proud of how this one came together 👇

Some homes are designed with such a clear vision that every single detail has to work. This Wanaka home built by Jared Miles is one of them - cedar cladding, dark joinery, considered proportions. Nothing accidental.

We installed a UNEX Siena semi-frameless glass balustrade here, and it's a great example of why this system is worth considering. It sits between fully frameless and framed - slim vertical posts that give the balustrade a defined, architectural quality, with glass infill panels that keep things open and light.

Against the cedar cladding and dark aluminium joinery, it works beautifully. The posts echo the vertical rhythm of the cladding. The glass keeps the deck connected to the landscape. It looks like it was designed for the house - because in a way, it was.
That's what we're aiming for on every job. A balustrade that feels like a considered part of the architecture, not an afterthought.

Not every great balustrade needs to be glass 🏔️ This UNEX Ascot install in Wanaka is a good reminder that the right product depends on the setting - not the price tag 👇

We talk a lot about glass on this page - and for good reason, it's beautiful. But one of the things we pride ourselves on is being honest with homeowners about what actually makes sense for their project and their budget.

This is a UNEX Ascot aluminium balustrade at a residential property in Wanaka. With those snow-capped mountains in the background, it's hard to argue with the result.
The Ascot is one of our most popular products and it's easy to see why.
Clean, classic, low maintenance, and it handles the Central Otago climate - the UV, the temperature swings, the wind - exceptionally well. Black powder-coat on aluminium will still look great in ten years with minimal effort.

It's also more cost-effective than glass, which matters a lot on a new build where the budget is already being pulled in a hundred directions.

What we find is that once homeowners see the Ascot installed in the right setting, they stop thinking of it as the budget option and start seeing it as simply the right option.
