This month, we are proud to celebrate two people who show what that looks like and who represent exactly what our business is built on.

𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 – 𝐀𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐎𝐛𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨
When our team nominated Adrian, the same things came up again and again: his positive attitude, his consistency, and his willingness to help. As one teammate put it, “‘No’ is not in his vocabulary!”

One moment in particular stood out to his managers. Adrian had mentioned that he was going to head home at 5pm and get some much-needed rest. At the same time, Dmitrey was machining an urgent pin for a customer who needed to get their equipment back up and running that night. Adrian could easily have called it a day, but instead he stayed for another two hours whilst the pin was being machined, welded it up, and helped make sure our customer was operational again that evening.

Adrian, your effort never goes unnoticed. Thank you for being someone your teammates can count on and for bringing such a great attitude to everything you do.

From tradesman to foreman, Light Shop Manager and now Operations and Capability Manager, Tipene’s ten years with us have been a remarkable journey of growth. At each stage, he has taken on new challenges, developed his skills and stepped into greater responsibility. Today, his role reaches across the business, helping strengthen our operations and develop the capability of our people.

For us, this milestone means so much more than ten years of service. We have watched Tipene grow into a leader who is now helping others take their own next steps.

Tipene, thank you for ten years of commitment, for continuing to challenge yourself, and for everything you have contributed to the team and business we are today. We are proud of how far you have come and excited to see what you do next.

Congratulations, Adrian and Tipene. Your contribution reaches far beyond the jobs you complete, it is felt by the people who work alongside you, learn from you and rely on you every day.

And to our entire team, thank you. We know the long hours, weekends and tight deadlines take time and energy away from life outside work. We see that commitment, and we do not take it for granted.

Koby is one of our apprentices and is continuing to develop into an exceptional tradesman. Several people across the business have independently recognised the quality of his welding, the improvement in his skills, and the pride he is taking in his work.
Watching someone grow in confidence, capability, and craftsmanship is one of the best parts of building a great team.

𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 – 𝐓𝐨𝐧𝐲 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫
Tony has been putting in some huge days, travelling across the country to collect and deliver materials so our projects stay on schedule. No matter how long the day or how far the drive, Tony continues to show up with a smile, a great attitude, and a willingness to do whatever is needed.
That level of reliability and commitment has an enormous impact on our customers, our projects, and the people around him.

𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 – 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐧 𝐏𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐲
Pragasen has stepped into a greater leadership role across our Heavy Shop projects and is making a real impact. He is taking ownership, supporting the team, maintaining high standards, and helping ensure complex projects continue to run smoothly.
It has been incredible to see his growth, confidence, and leadership continue to build.

𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 – 𝐗𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐊𝐮𝐢𝐥
Xavier has stepped up at a critical time for our Machine Shop. While the department has been operating without a manager, he has taken responsibility for the work phone, supported job coordination, and helped keep the team moving forward.

When a major quote needed to be sent and he did not have access to a company email, Xavier took the initiative to create a new Gmail address in his own time, using a name aligned with Gisborne Engineering, so the quote could go out and progress would not stall.

He has done all of this without making a fuss or looking for recognition. He has simply kept moving, taking ownership, and driving the department forward. The Machine Shop’s continued strong performance says a lot about Xavier and the strength of the team around him.

𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 - 𝐑𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐝 𝐆𝐨𝐧𝐳𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬
Ronald inues to raise the bar month after month. This year, he has treated the business as though he owns 100% of it. He has worked extraordinary hours, stepped in on weekends, and consistently gone above and beyond to deliver exceptional outcomes for our customers.
Ronald works quietly, but the quality of what he delivers speaks loudly, that level of trust, skill, and commitment is something to be incredibly proud of.

Congratulations to Koby, Tony, Pragasen, Xavier, and Ronald for your well deserved awards this month.

And, most importantly, thank you to our entire team...

The long hours, weekends, changing priorities, and tight deadlines have asked a lot of our people over the past few months. Through it all, the team has continued to step up, support one another, and deliver work to an incredibly high standard.

The strength of our business and the opportunities ahead of us are built on that commitment, resilience, and pride.

Bit of a special one to be part of for the Gisborne RSA ❤️🖤

Back on 27 March, Trevor Jukes from M.E Jukes came in with an old RSA sign and asked if we could sketch it up and cut out three new shapes to match.

We used our Waterjet Cutter Maxiem 1530 to cut the shapes out of aluminium plate, then cleaned them up so they were ready for the designers to work their magic.

Once our part was done, Trevor organised the painting and final design work, and now they’ve come back looking like this.
Pretty awesome to see the finished result and to play a small part in something connected to the RSA and ANZAC remembrance.

Another awesome kaupapa wrapped up by Guardians of Gisborne | Ngā Kaitiaki o Te Tairāwhiti 💙

Over the past few weeks, the team at Gisborne Engineering & Patton have been working on a custom-built alloy dog box for local hunter Raana Tangaere. Today we were proud to hand it over and see the finished product put a smile on his face.

The dog box was specifically designed to be lightweight, durable, and easy to transport, making it practical for everyday use while still being strong enough to handle the job.

One thing we quickly learned about Raana is his passion for hunting and spending time outdoors. With the support of his whānau and mates, he continues getting out there and doing what he loves.

Being able to contribute something that helps make those adventures a little easier made this project even more special for us.

This kaupapa was all about supporting our community and using the skills we have to help where we can. Seeing the reaction from Raana and his whānau made all the effort worthwhile.

A huge thanks to everyone involved in helping bring this project together. Good vibes all around and mean to see everyone coming together for a solid kaupapa 🤝🏽

May was a record breaking month at Gisborne Engineering & Patton, and we're proud to recognise team members who have made a significant impact through their commitment, quality, and leadership.

Adrian has been leading by example through his incredible work ethic and commitment to the team. Consistently putting in long hours, often working close to 60-hour weeks, Adrian never complains and simply gets on with the job. He arrives on time, ready to work, with a positive attitude every day. His reliability and dedication make a huge difference to our team and our customers.

𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 – 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐧 𝐏𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐲
Pragasen has been recognised by multiple team members for his outstanding quality and attention to detail on the Patton weld plate work. His workmanship has been exceptional, requiring no rework, while also identifying potential issues before they became costly problems. Combined with his willingness to support others and share his knowledge, Pragasen continues to raise the bar and improve every day.

Huge congratulations to Adrian and Pragasen. Most importantly, thank you to every member of our team. The long hours, commitment, teamwork, and pride you bring to your work each day do not go unnoticed.

Great to be involved in a meaningful kaupapa alongside Feed Tairāwhiti on Sunday the 17th of May 🙌🏽

Our team from Gisborne Engineering & Patton joined the KDW Tairāwhiti U18 boys, a group of local rangatahi, with some still in high school and others recently finished, who are preparing for their upcoming rugby tournament in Japan.

Together, we helped cook, prepare and hand out kai to those in our community doing it tough.

Good vibes all around and mean to see everyone coming together for a solid kaupapa 🤝🏽

The Guardians of Gisborne / Ngā Kaitiaki o Tairāwhiti is something we’ve recently started as a way to become more involved within our community and lend a hand where we can 💪🏽

Appreciate everyone involved and looking forward to jumping into more kaupapa around the coast.

We’re proud to recognise two team members who have stepped up and made a real impact across the business in the past month.

Steve is being recognised for the way he has stepped up to support the team where it’s needed most. From helping out in the machine shop to taking ownership of the phone and handling calls without a manager present and after hours, Steve has shown reliability and a willingness to take responsibility to keep things moving.

𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 – 𝐋𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝐑𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐚
Lavelle is being recognised for the leadership he has shown in taking ownership of our Guardians of Gisborne community project. He has driven the first project through to completion, stepping in to support a local martial arts gym by installing security measures to protect their facilities.

This is what the project is all about, stepping up, backing our community, and looking after the people who look after us. Lavelle has already lined up further projects to continue this impact, showing real ownership and leadership in making this initiative come to life.

Huge congratulations to Steve and Lavelle on their awards this month, and thank you to our entire team who make this possible, the effort, pride, and commitment you bring every day is what allows us to do work that truly matters.

Big mihi to Rangataua o Aotearoa for the kind words 🙌🏽

When we heard about what had happened with someone climbing through the gates and stealing property of our future rangatira, we wanted to step in and tautoko our people straight away. Our team installed security bars to help keep the nanakia out 😆 also added bars to the toilet entrance for extra protection as well 💪🏽

This all came together through our Light Shop Manager Tipene Ria, who reached out to his whanaunga Mike Huriwai and Melissa Mackey-Huriwai to make sure we could help get things sorted quickly. That’s what it’s about for us, looking after the community that looks after us 🤝🏽

Big news for Gisborne.

After 130 years on the East Coast, Gisborne Engineering is stepping into its next chapter.

𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝟑𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, 𝐰𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐬 𝐆𝐢𝐬𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 & 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐨𝐧 as part of a long-planned family succession and a new partnership with the Patton Group.
