Now is a good time to plant a tree!
Fruit trees instore now!
Take advantage of the rain and chill of winter, when trees are dormant and growth slows right down so they wonโt become stressed from a dramatic change in location.
How to plant a tree:
๐ณ Choose the right tree for the space you have โ above and below ground. Some trees get very big!
๐ณ Make sure soil is free-draining. In soggy or clay soils make a mound to plant into.
๐ณ Dig a hole as deep as the root ball and twice as wide.
๐ณ Remove the tree from its container and prune any broken roots.
๐ณ Put the tree in the hole so the soil level is the same as it was. Look for signs on the trunk so you donโt bury it too deep or too high.
๐ณ Fill the hole with the soil that came out of it and firm down with your foot.
๐ณ Water well to settle the soil. Add more soil if necessary.
๐ณ Put compost or slow-release fertilizer and mulch around the root zone but away from the trunk.
๐ณ Add a stake beyond the root ball to support the tree and tie it in with a soft tie tight enough to allow some movement.
๐ณ Water throughout the first year including during winter dry spells.
