Last week, we lost one of our own. A longtime member and a good friend to many. He will be missed. May he rest in peace.

"Nick was one of the trail blazers and has mentored many new guides within the Southern Lakes over the years. A true professional and decent human." "Nick gave me my first job after university working for DOC in Queenstown, and also helped me start out in my guiding career and will be sadly missed." "Another rock of our industry disappears Nick was a remarkable man." "A Totara has fallen. All my best for a man who we were lucky to have crossed paths with. Kind and generous with a twinkle of cheek. Go well my friend."

Congratulations to one of our own Peter Carty on being honoured by the King. Pete has become an “Officer” receiving the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to fly fishing .. many of us appreciate what Pete has done and still continues to do for the sport, and being a humble salt of the earth kiwi man I’m sure he’s hoping the fuss moves on .. Honoured to have been able to call this bloke my mate .. now i get to call him “Officer” .. LEGEND PETE !!! (credit to Cory Scott for posting the above)

Scale back your stress and reel in some relaxation - fishing is a great way to connect with nature and take a break from the rush of life.
This week is Mental Health Awareness week and today’s theme is Be Active | Me Kori Tonu.
The mental health benefits of fly fishing are well known and in Aotearoa there's a Casting for Recovery group which offers women with breast cancer emotional, physical and social support through fly fishing.
In the US and UK, fly fishing programmes have been set up for veterans following studies that show the pursuit helps with recovery from injury as well as the mental and emotional trauma many suffer after experiencing armed conflict.
If you or someone you know is struggling, why not reach out to them and take them for a spell on the water – it may work wonders!

FISH AND HUNT FOREVER
The future of fishing and hunting is under threat. Changes in society and law are marginalising this critical part of who we are as New Zealanders, our lifestyle and culture.

Your favourite pursuits are threatened by the Government’s proposed law to replace the RMA. The law will not recognise what you value about the wild, nor protect the habitat of trout, salmon and game birds.

Fish & Game is the only organisation that champions these pursuits and advocates on your behalf as anglers and game bird hunters.

Your help is needed to fight for the ongoing ability to fish and hunt. Join our dedicated campaign to ensure you and future generations will fish and hunt forever.
