Last but certainly not least in our Director introductions, meet Jack MacDonald, Director of Engineering at Tripp Andrews.

A Chartered Professional Engineer with more than 14 years’ experience across civil design and construction, Jack brings a practical, solutions-focused approach to everything from infill developments to large-scale greenfield subdivisions.

Having started his career with Fletcher Construction before gaining further experience with a Tier 1 contractor in the UK, Jack understands engineering from both sides, how it works on paper and, importantly, how it will actually work on site.

He’s also known for his strong understanding of council requirements and ability to find pragmatic solutions to complex project challenges.

We’re wrapping up our Director series with Jack, but you’ll be seeing plenty more from him as we continue sharing the people, projects and expertise behind Tripp Andrews.

It's been a busy few weeks for the engineering team.

Last month, our Civil Manager Dietrich Truchsess won the Information Management Award at the 2026 12d Tech Forum, for the automation platform he built inside our 12d Synergy workflow. This week at the 12d Synergy workshop, he was presented with the trophy in person. Two of our Directors, Jack MacDonald and John Rowe, were there to see it, and both reckon the trophy is the most exciting thing to happen in engineering since the spreadsheet.

That same platform, plus an enhanced version now running an even wider set of automation tasks, has made us one of 4 finalists for Best Implementation of AI in Aotearoa at the Aotearoa AI Awards (AI Forum New Zealand). Public voting is open now. To back us, select "Reinventing Engineering in Land Development, Tripp Andrews Surveyors" on the People's Choice voting form (link in comments) before voting closes 11:59pm, 4 November. Winner announced at the awards ceremony on 18 November.

Meet Chris Walsh, one of the Directors here at Tripp Andrews 👋

Chris is a Principal Planning Consultant who brings extensive experience across urban residential development and subdivision projects throughout Auckland.

Having started his career council-side, Chris has seen the planning process from both perspectives. That experience gives him a strong understanding of how councils assess applications, where challenges can arise, and how to navigate the consenting process efficiently.

He’s known for being thorough, methodical and across the finer details, particularly when it comes to complex development sites where a well-considered planning strategy can make all the difference.

From subdivisions to large-scale residential developments, Chris works closely with clients and the wider Tripp Andrews team to help move projects from an idea through the planning and consenting stages with confidence.

A great night out for an even better cause! 🎯

The Tripp Andrews team put their general knowledge to the test at Grada’s annual Red Nose Day Quiz Night in July, raising funds for Cure Kids and the vital child health research they support across Aotearoa.

A six-lot residential development in Henderson, with smarter design decisions making a real difference to the project’s feasibility.

Our team worked across surveying, planning and engineering to navigate the resource consent and EPA processes, while working closely with the architect to maximise the site’s potential.

During the EPA stage, we were also able to refine the approved stormwater design, significantly reducing the required public stormwater extension and delivering meaningful cost savings for our client.

A great example of how the right advice throughout a development can help create better outcomes, not just at the start, but right through the approval process.

Meet John Rowe, Director and Licensed Cadastral Surveyor at Tripp Andrews.

John has built his career helping landowners unlock the potential of their properties, combining extensive experience in residential land development with a strong background in rural surveying.

As a Licensed Cadastral Surveyor, he takes a practical, straightforward approach to every project, working through the technical and regulatory challenges to find the best outcome for his clients.

Growing up on a sheep and beef farm gives John a unique understanding of rural land, making him especially well placed to advise on subdivisions and land development opportunities across both urban and rural environments.

His practical mindset, technical expertise, and genuine passion for the industry make him an integral part of the Tripp Andrews team.
