Kirk Roberts is expanding its specialist engineering expertise welcoming the Finesse Consulting Engineers team members into our business. As part of this growth, we’re looking forward to welcoming Simon Finn, Dean McCabe and Shona Southwick to our Christchurch office.

The team brings considerable experience, strong client relationships and specialist expertise across structural and geotechnical engineering, forensic structural assessment and expert witness services.

This is an exciting step in the continued growth of Kirk Roberts. Bringing our teams together expands the knowledge and specialist support within our business, while creating new opportunities for our people to collaborate and learn from one another.

For existing Finesse clients, continuity of service, relationships and project delivery remains a key priority. Clients will continue working with the familiar people they know and trust, now supported by Kirk Roberts’ wider multidisciplinary capability and national resources.

A warm welcome to Simon, Dean and Shona. We’re excited to have you on board.

Engineering the foundations for better aged care.

CHT Karaka is a new 60-bed residential care facility in South Auckland, designed to support residents across different stages of care.

Our civil engineering team worked through the complexities of an evolving subdivision, including site levels, flood risk and infrastructure, supporting the project from concept through to construction.

How do you deliver a major hotel development when labour, resources and supply are constrained?

That was one of the challenges facing our Sudima Kaikōura hotel development.

Rather than leaving those challenges to the construction stage, our structural team designed around them from the outset.
Key components, including precast concrete panels, timber internal walls and suspended concrete floors, were manufactured in Christchurch and transported to Kaikōura ready for installation.
This required significant front-end planning, with components designed to arrive on site fit for purpose and ready for efficient assembly.

“Not only did this approach help us overcome site and labour challenges, but it also reduced waste and increased the efficiency of the build. It allowed us to de-risk the development,” says CEO Jade Kirk.

Now a Qualmark 5-Star Gold hotel, Sudima Kaikōura is a great example of how considering construction methodology early can help improve buildability, reduce risk and create efficiencies during delivery.

We LOVE seeing our brand out in the community, on the sidelines and supporting the up-and-coming young sports people around our regions.

A shout out to this awesome Mount Maunganui College First XI Hockey team who were recently at the New Zealand Secondary Schools tournament, competing in the Federation Cup for the top 32 schools in NZ. And as they placed 15th they have gained automatic entry into the 2027 event.

Well done ladies!
