A great result at the recent Nelson & Marlborough Architecture Awards 2026, with two projects we’ve been involved in taking out awards 🙌

Tinline's Development on Bridge Street (Irving Smith Architects) and Bunk, Bath and Beyond in Renwick (Shaw & Shaw Architects) both showcase the strength of collaboration and great design thinking.

Congratulations to everyone involved - proud to have played a part.

🚧 Site Progress Update – Latimer Church, Rosebank

Significant progress on site at the Latimer Church build. A recent construction monitoring visit shows the building really beginning to take shape, with the architectural curves now clearly visible and the building’s form becoming more defined on site. Driveway works are also underway, marking another milestone as this project continues to come together.

Office with a view - just not the usual one for Emily lately. A site visit at Wainui, with a brief pause to take in the surroundings and enjoy a coffee break. A stunning autumn day on Banks Peninsula.

After many years working side by side with DLA Architects in Timaru, it was great for Damian and Keanu to take Murray Ackroyd out last week to wish him well for his retirement. Murray has been a constant presence in our shared office for close to two decades, with Damian having the privilege of sharing a workspace with him for most of that time.

Over the years, we’ve really valued Murray’s experience, calm perspective, and the easy collegiality he brought to the day‑to‑day - the kind that makes a shared office feel like one team rather than two firms.

We look forward to continuing that relationship with Chris Greenfield as he steps into Murray’s role.

Thanks Murray - it’s been a pleasure working alongside you. Enjoy retirement, you’ve more than earned it.😄

A day in the life at Structex 👀

Yesterday afternoon, one of our engineers, Josh, headed out to Lanyon & Le Compte’s precast yard to carry out panel inspections for the new Timaru Museum. With consent and shop drawing reviews complete, it was time for inspections ahead of concrete pours and the panels being trucked down to Timaru. From reinforcement detailing to weld plates and formwork, it’s all about making sure everything is spot‑on before things move to the next stage. There’s nothing quite like seeing a design come to life on the factory floor.

He rongo pai! Great news - we are thrilled to see one of our projects at 55 Bridge Street in Nelson shortlisted for the 2026 Nelson & Marlborough Architecture Awards being held on 8th May.

A strong collaboration with Irving Smith Architects and Tinline Property, this project reflects what’s possible when sustainability, seismic performance, and thoughtful design come together.

He rongo pai! Great news - we are thrilled to see our project at 55 Bridge Street in Nelson shortlisted for the 2026 Nelson & Marlborough Architecture Awards being held on 8th May.

A strong collaboration with Irving Smith Architects and Tinline Property, this project reflects what’s possible when sustainability, seismic performance, and thoughtful design come together.

We are proud to share that 55 Bridge Street has been named in the shortlist for the Nelson & Marlborough Architecture Awards. The shortlisted projects were selected from entries submitted to the Nelson and Marlborough Branch of Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects.

Key features of this building include:

• Structural LVL timber elements sourced locally from Nelson Pine.

• A seismic design that exceeds code requirements, allowing for future hazard model updates.

• A suspended ground floor slab designed to address contaminated soils and a high water table.

• 80 perforated and folded aluminium panels providing visual privacy and effective sun shading.

The building was designed by local architects Irving Smith Architects, managed by Aesculus Project Management, built by Coman Construction, Barnes Beagley Doherr Ltd, Jackson Engineering Advisers Ltd and Structex. The new building will soon achieve a NABERS rating, reflecting our commitment to energy efficiency and sustainable construction.

Milestone achieved! From factory floor to first journey 🚛

This portable building is one of the first modules off to site today, following our design collaboration with Portable Buildings NZ. Rainier was there to oversee the lift and load - keeping the “house‑trained” truck in line 😜
