LOOKING BACK - Hard on the heels of the Nissan Diesel Jumbo conventional which arrived in the late sixties, was their COE Rhino.
This was sold as a six-wheeler, although a tag- axle was often fitted depending on the application as in this sales promotion photograph of a M.M. Crane Logging of Balclutha ,logging rig.
Boasting 250hp and 695 lbs/ft of torque from its supercharged two-stroke UD63 power-plant, this truck made a big impact at a time when there weren't many options for a durable tandem-drive, diesel engined heavy-truck.
Ultimately with the arrival of the fuel crisis of the early seventies - these two-stroke powered trucks proved too thirsty, and the engines were prone to getting dusted but provided they were treated right, they proved to be an outstanding series of trucks for the day.
They paved the way for the formidible four-stroke V8's and big six's that really put Nissan Diesel on the map from the eighties on.
But in the sixties and seventies, the Jumbo, Rhinos and Vulcans were amongst the biggest and most powerful trucks on the road and paved the way for the current generation of UD Trucks seen on this page.

LOOKING BACK - The first Nissan Diesel UD trucks arrived on New Zealand shores about 60-years ago, and this particular Nissan Diesel Jumbo was one of the very first.
It initially went to work for Mossburn Transport in Northern Southland and was a stand-out in an era of mainly British competitors.
The 236-hp supercharged two-stroke engines that powered those first Nissans were significantly more powerful than most of the competition of the time, and those Nissans proved an instant success which paved the way for the new UD Trucks you see on this page.
Every week we will be posting a new 'old' image to highlight the history of the brand in this country - and the depth of CVC's 40-year commitment to a brand that has more than stood the test of time.

Another new Condor hits the road - this time on the West Coast.

This medium-duty Condor PK 17 300 AS crane truck is mounted with a HIAB X-CLX 128. The Euro 6 Condor is the ideal solution for metro deliveries. With its 300hp fuel efficient turbo diesel engine, the reliable Allison 300 series transmission, air suspension, and its Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), this truck is made to get the job done - safely and efficiently.

Distinctive in its orange and black livery, this new unit will be transporting building supplies around Hokitika and the Westland region for Mitre 10 Trade based in Hokitika.

A brand new 2026 UD Quon CW26 460 has joined the expanding Fiveash Contracting Ltd fleet.

This heavy-duty 6x4 rigid truck powered by a GH11 diesel engine with 460hp, driven by Doc, has been put to work across Canterbury.

Thanks to Commercial Vehicle Centre - CVC and to Guy Norris Engineering for another quality 4-axle trailer and body build, which was managed by Fiveash's in-house engineer, Dan Horne. A great team effort resulting in this awesome new Quon truck and trailer unit.

Introducing the first all-new Condor to hit the roads in NZ - and in the most unusual application - it's a ski bus called 'Uncle Ryan'!

The team at Snowman Shuttles, Christchurch. are the proud owners of this first Condor come-back legend in NZ, a PK17-300 that has been purpose-built into a premium passenger bus.

This impressive vehicle is providing transport of skiers and snowboarders from Christchurch to Mt Hutt. Safe, comfortable and dependable. Owner Will is already seeing the benefits of the Condor.

“Uphill it has the torque to climb with ease. Downhill I have absolute control. The road is currently as challenging as it gets for the descent, and this vehicle handles it with ease. Without a doubt, the most reassuring vehicle I've driven down the Mt Hutt access road (this is my 21st winter driving this road).
