Well what a Awesome weekend at Pukekohe Raceway!
I definitely get it now... This track has soo much Character and will be such a shame to see it go, so I'm super glad we made the trip to experience it before its soon to be gone forever.

We had a trying start to our weekend on Friday starting with discovering I left my race suit in Christchurch 🤦‍♂️
Having some brake issues
Breaking a CV
Then a radiator fan letting go and destroying the radiator.
Managed to buy a new radiator and fan and get the car back together Friday afternoon.

Saturday morning was a fresh day
- Qualified - P1
- Race1 - 1st
- Race2 - 2nd due to confusion on a yellow flag
- Race3 - 1st
- Race4 - 9th after starting with a 60sec handicap

IN SEARCH OF SPOOL

Recently we have taken on the task of designing and fabricating a new exhaust manifold and exhaust system for the No.8 Racecar aiming to improve turbo spool time and response to help with mid/exit corner drivability and power delivery.
With the old turbo housing being only single entry a Twin Scroll housing was the only way to go! So we set about fabricating the new twin scroll manifold from steam pipe as the old SS tube manifold just did not cope with the conditions produced by this car.
We machined a custom T3 manifold fl**ge with an upstand to locate into the new Twin Scroll housing. We also machined a recess in the housing to accept the upstand on the fl**ge to perfectly align the manifold to turbo ports every time and eliminate the need for a gasket.
Now to the exhaust system, here we tried something a little different... A 5" exhaust!
This was to reduce any restrictions in the pipe to aid our Search For Spool, so with the turbo outlet only being 3" and not being able to buy a 3"-5" expander over a short distance why not make one from Billet! So that we did!
This section of 5" exhaust wraps around the rear of the engine before reducing back to 4" to exit the vehicle.
Results were evident soon after putting it on the Dyno where Spool was achieved 500rpm earlier and huge amount more usable HP and torque were achieved in the low/mid range, exactly where we were aiming for.
For example at 4000rpm 115hp was gained in the process as well as a healthy amount of torque. These improvements were seen from 2500-3000rpm right through to peak power where an extra 40hp was gained at peak.
In general the area under the curve was greatly increased making for an extremely responsive and lively racecar.
