With the wine industry under pressure, more winery owners and operators are asking:
"What can we sell, and for how much?"
But the better question is:
"What should we do before making disposal decisions?"
Here are five common mistakes that can reduce value:
1. Leaving it too late
Waiting until a site, tank room, or bottling line must be cleared urgently limits options and often reduces buyer engagement.
2. Treating all assets the same
Tanks, presses, pumps, refrigeration, bottling equipment, forklifts, and spare parts often require different disposal strategies.
3. Poor presentation and documentation
Around 60% of the assets we sell are purchased unseen. Clear photos, specifications, condition reports, service history, and removal information create buyer confidence.
4. Choosing speed over strategy
Fast disposal can be necessary, but a rushed process can leave value behind. The right sales approach depends on the assets and objectives.
5. Treating decommissioning as an afterthought
Asset disposal is rarely just a sales exercise. Removal costs, site access, health and safety requirements, and logistics should be understood before assets are marketed.
