A stern rail sounds straightforward until you start adding integrated access gates, a fold-down swim ladder that doubles as part of the safety rail when stowed, and a custom rod holder for a new owner who, unlike his predecessor, has fish to catch.

This one for Weber Marine required everything to work together cleanly. Practical, hardwearing, and built for the marine environment without compromising how the boat looks from the back.

Less chance of an unexpected swim. More chance of landing a fish.

We don't usually share work before it's completed. Partly because we're perfectionists. Partly because nothing beats the finished reveal.

But sometimes a job is so impressive mid-build that you just have to break your own rules.

This is a bow rail we're currently fabricating for Weber Marine and the scale of it speaks for itself. Metres of 316 stainless, every bend calculated, every junction built to take whatever the ocean throws at it.

Still a way to go, but it's already looking the part.

Finished result coming in due course...

Protection doesn't have to be an eyesore.

Swipe to see where we started. The brief was simple, bow protection, functional and hardwearing. Whether it's preventative or the result of an unfortunate encounter with a dock, we hear this one quite a bit. But at Firefish, functional is never really the whole story. We fabricated a custom 316 stainless guard, mirror polished to sit flush against the hull. Does the job brilliantly and importantly, looks mint.

Practical ... and polished. It's the only way we know how to do it.

Oh, and if you check out the last photo, you might spot our director Steve admiring (and capturing) his own handiwork. We can neither confirm nor deny that this was intentional ...

We were recently revisiting a project from last year, and it got us thinking about how the most important details are often the ones you don’t notice straight away.

In this kitchen by Katie Scott of Sticks+Stones Design, the island is where a lot of that thinking sits. At one end, a soft curve shapes the profile. It may look simple, but took careful planning and ex*****on to get right. At the other end, the island extends into a table connection, where the base becomes more defined. The custom legs, made from steel and stainless and finished in a two-toned powder coat, add contrast and help ground the stone above.

Our role was to build the island base and bring these elements together, creating something that feels resolved from every angle while supporting the marble without competing with it.

It’s a good reminder of how much sits beneath the surface in a space like this.

When off-the-shelf just isn’t going to cut it…

This fuel tank replacement was a little out of the ordinary. The original had a tricky, unconventional shape, so we began by 3D scanning it to capture every curve and angle with accuracy.

From there, we built a new tank from the ground up, designed to slot straight back into place as if it had always been there.

It’s a good reminder that with boats, there’s rarely a one-size-fits-all solution. Often, the best approach is to go fully custom, especially for components like this that are designed to fit perfectly within the structure and out of sight once installed.

If you’ve got something a bit tricky on board, feel free to get in touch.

Another custom davit, finished and installed. This one was designed and built to sit effortlessly within the boat, tailored not just to the space, but to how the owner uses it day to day. When it’s done right, a davit shouldn’t feel like an add-on. It should feel like it’s always belonged there.

Beyond the look, it’s about making time on the water simpler. Lifting your tender becomes smooth and controlled, decks stay clear, and everything feels secure and considered under load.

No two builds are the same. Each davit is custom fabricated to suit the boat, the layout, and the way you move around it.

If a davit has been on your mind, feel free to get in touch. We’re always up for a conversation about what could work best for you.
