To bring construction costs down, one of the things we can do is build faster.

On-site painting is slow. Thereโ€™s a lot of coordination, people, drying time, second coats, rework.

Prefinished panels change that.

Contract coating in our Penrose factory removes multiple steps and brings consistent quality, predictable timelines and less waste.

At Bates Surfaces, UV-coated panels are produced at scale and ready to install, helping reduce the number of trades working on site while maintaining consistent quality.

Set on the rugged Wairarapa coast at Palliser Bay, this Wharepapa bach by Aspect Architecture draws on the language of rural New Zealand, driven by practicality, and made to last.

The retreat sits at the edge of a working farm, created for a farming couple who wanted somewhere to relax without losing connection to the land.

โ€˜We wanted it to read like two farm sheds sitting side by side,โ€™ says Aspect director Victoria Read. โ€˜Simple and honest, with nothing too contrived. We used products like greyed cedar cladding outside and prefinished plywood inside.โ€™

Polished concrete floors provide a serviceable interior, while white walls keep the spaces light and open. Overhead, ceilings lined in PlyPlay Blonde Ambition introduce warmth and pattern, the pale timber softening the coastal light and adding texture without the high cost of solid wood lining.

The material continues into custom-designed bunk beds in the childrenโ€™s room, creating a consistent material language throughout the bach.
