Three kings race rundown.
If you want to see how to win an offshore race in style then watch this video. Not only do you need fast sails and a well setup boat but a good attitude also helps..
We have been working with Damon and Jacs on the Motorboat III campaign from the cavali's race last year including the round north island 2 handed and now this latest race. Every event has not only been awesome fun but we have collected the silverware too.
In the case of Motorboat III we looked at the sail inventory as a whole and worked hard to eliminate any weaknesses and gaps in the range. This meant repurposing and modifying some sails to fit in better and get the best result for the minimum spend.
In three kings race race Clockwork Racing also took the gun and set a new race record with their brand new Rogue Sails mainsail that was only fitted days before the race.
Those Rogue sails must be fast!

With the SSANZ Doyle Sails Round north island race completed we are already onto the next event which is the RNZYS Three Kings race which starts this morning. Once again I'm on the Motorboat III following on from our successful RNI campaign where we almost took a clean sweep of 3 out 4 leg wins, division 1 overall and the overall PHRF points trophy narrowly missing out on the total corrected time trophy which we won together in 2017 on the sunfast 3600. Clearly our new set of Rogue sails weren't slow!
Rogue sails was well represented with 6 boats carrying new Rogue sails and 5 new carbon membrane mainsails across the fleet.
Thanks must go to Doyle Sails for the sponsorship of the event and especially Toby for following the fleet and doing all the numerous sail repairs. That's the special thing about this event, it brings everyone together for a common goal of getting all the competitors around the track.
Now into the Three Kings race start, this time with a brand new main on the Clockwork as well as us and Carpe Diem with new Rogue mains. Let's see if we can back up the last few epic results!

I'm off sailboating tomorrow in the 'Round North Island 2 handed race' on board the good ship Motorboat III.
Will be a bit harder to contact for the next 2 weeks but will do my best.
This is my 6th time competing in the race with only one other person equaling that record. Some call it the slow learners award...
Rogue sails has a good representation in the race with 7 boats out of the 26 boat fleet having 'Gone Rogue'.
Be sure to follow the adventure on the yellow brick trackers or shorthanded sailing association face book page and I will update here where I can.

Merry Christmas from Rogue Sails!
Its been an incredibly busy year for Rogue Sails with sails going far and wide around NZ and beyond.
We have worked on everything from one design dinghies such as teams racing 420s, custom signwritten optimists and RS feva training sails through to offshore race boats getting ready for the round north island race such as the Thompson 1150 Motorboat III, Pogo 36 P**i, and Elliott 10.6 Carpe Diem.
We have now done 20 sails for boats over 45ft, hanse 445, beneteau first 45, beneteau oceanis 54, Nordhavn 56, Azuree 46, Samoa 47 and other big offshore cruisers such as a set of sails for a Deerfoot 63 that went straight from my big boat sail manufacturer in Sri Lanka to the boat in Tonga and have now already sailed to Canada.
In between all these small and big sails has been literally hundreds of mid size cruisers and racers of all shapes sizes and budgets.
Customizing the sails fabric, cut, design and size to meet each specific requirement and budget is the key. With so many different options available this is where 30 years of sailmaking and sailing experience comes into it to make sure you are getting exactly what you want. It's not about a hard sell or upselling to the top end product but instead forming a lasting relationship based on trust, knowledge and service to make sure the end result is spot on.
The growth and support of Rogue Sails has been simply amazing and far greater than I could have ever imagined!
Thanks to everyone who has become part of the Rogue Family!

Finally starting to wind down now for the year and get our own yacht Rogue 3 ready for another family summer cruise.
Not going down to the south island again this year and will just stick to local waters. Feel free to come and say hi if you see us on the good ship Rogue 3 out on the water.

Rogue sails wins the Cavalli Island race on both line and handicap! Motorboat III with a full new set of Carbon/technora Membrane race sails took a convincing win on line holding out the much bigger Botin 55 Equilibrium and the Trimaran Oceans Tribute in a hard fought battle. On Handicap the Elliott 10.6 Carpe Diem took the PHRF win also using a Carbon/technora membrane mainsail. The winning results are starting to stack up now with Rogue sails winning 4 of the divisions in the SSANZ Triple series as well as the Gulf Harbour and weiti boating club winter series.

This is what a winning crew looks like.

Motorboat III — a 2005 Thompson 1150 — has crossed the line first in the Doyle Sails Cavalli Islands Race, and here’s the team behind the result.

A huge effort from a crew that punched above their size all race.

Well I did promise I wouldn't spam this page with lots of random posts but its about time for an update on Rogue Sails.
The last 8 months since Rogue Sails was conceived has been a whirl wind of activity with over 90 sails of all types delivered all around NZ and many happy customers.
Anything from 420 teams racing sails to boats as large as 56ft, racing and cruising sails, we have not only delivered all types of sails but also delivered on all our promises.
Its been some hard work at times and learning the ways of a being a self employed business owner has been challenging but also extremely rewarding and the best decision I have ever made. It helps that I know my product inside out and it’s just the mechanics around how to manage the admin side of it that I have had to learn.
To all the people who have backed me and used Rogue Sails to help enhance their sailing experience – thank you and I hope we can continue a strong relationship in the future.
Check out the website and photo gallery and let me know what you think. I’m no expert in websites or marketing but I think it looks pretty good for a couple of sailors and some damn good looking sails too!
If anyone has any good picures of Rogue Sails in action then post them here and I will add them to the gallery.
The best photo will get a new 'I'VE GONE ROGUE' T-shirt in return.
