We're pleased to announce the appointment of Caroline Sui as Principal Architect at Babbage.

Over the past two decades, she delivered projects across the industrial, high-density residential, retirement, education, and commercial sectors.

Known for her practical approach and collaborative style, she has built strong relationships with clients, consultants, and contractors, navigating complex challenges and turning ambitious ideas into successful outcomes.

Her recent completion of an MBA, alongside induction into the international business honour society Beta Gamma Sigma, reflects qualities that have shaped her career from the beginning: curiosity, adaptability, and a genuine desire to keep learning and find better ways forward. These attributes continue to broaden her perspective and strengthen the value she brings to clients, projects, and teams.

As Principal, she will continue to provide leadership across our architecture practice and the wider business, helping clients achieve their design, delivery, and commercial objectives while guiding project teams through increasingly complex environments.

Sree joins Babbage with almost 20 years of experience in transport infrastructure, having led the planning, design, and delivery of major roading and transport projects across New Zealand. 🎀 Pink Ribbon has long been Babbage's biggest fundraising event, and we hope to make 2026 our biggest donation year yet!

Bringing our Team Together 🌟

In May, Babbage staff across New Zealand and Australia came together at our Auckland Office for an evening of connection, celebration, and recognition. With our teams working across multiple offices, projects, and disciplines, the evening provided valuable time to catch up with colleagues, strengthen relationships, and enjoy each other's company away from the day-to-day demands of work.

The evening also recognised a number of long-serving staff whose dedication and contribution have helped shape Babbage over many years. Their commitment, experience, and willingness to support others continue to have a lasting impact across the business.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the evening such a success. We look forward to creating more opportunities to connect, celebrate, and strengthen the relationships that make Babbage such a great team to be part of.

Babbage will be proudly represented at next week’s Water New Zealand’s Stormwater Conference & Expo 2026 at the NZICC, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, and we’re looking forward to connecting with industry peers, partners, and attendees throughout the event.

Our Infrastructure Lead, Suman Khareedi, will be presenting a paper on the Revitalisation of Hakanoa Stream at 3.30 pm on Wednesday, sharing how the site was transformed from derelict to delightful through a nature-based design approach. It’s a great example of how integrated stormwater, environmental, and community outcomes can come together to create lasting value.

You’ll also find the Babbage team in the exhibition hall at Stand 66.

Come by to meet members of our Infrastructure, Environmental Science & Engineering, and Civil Engineering teams.

Ask questions, and learn more about the work we’re doing across New Zealand.

We’ll also be running games and competitions throughout the conference, with prizes up for grabs.

We’re excited to share that Stijn Van den Eeden, Babbage’s Associate Principal External Envelope, has been appointed as the New Zealand Chair of the Society of Façade Engineers (SFE).

Stijn says, “A big thank you to Jon Robinson for his work in establishing the SFE, and to Susanne Hundert for stepping into the Vice Chair role alongside myself – an awesome team to help grow the organisation locally.”

The SFE was established in 2004 through a collaboration between CIBSE, IStructE and RIBA, and brings professionals together to share knowledge, advance practice, and promote high-performing building façades. As buildings become more complex, the importance of façades continues to grow, playing a key role in areas such as thermal performance, ventilation, daylighting, solar control and acoustics.

It’s an exciting time for the discipline, and we’re looking forward to seeing the SFE thrive here in Aotearoa.

City to Surf 2026 – Christchurch 🏃‍♀️

A fantastic turnout this year at City to Surf 2026, where 200+ people from engineering companies across Christchurch took part in a friendly competition organised by Engineering New Zealand Te Ao Rangahau.

We’re proud to say Babbage’s Gavin Sandrey took out the 12 km run in the Engineering NZ bracket with an impressive 43:59 finish time 👏

Babbage was also happy to help Engineering New Zealand with organising prizes and preparing food for the finish-line gathering.

The event itself supports several local charities through the City to Surf programme, making the day about more than just running.

And to top it all off, the weather couldn’t have been better for a run along the Avon / Ōtākaro trail to New Brighton.

Thanks to everyone who took part — looking forward to the next one!
