The Domain Collection on Carlton Gore Road is now complete, and we’re pleased to have supported Precinct Properties with civil engineering services for the development.

Our Civil team worked alongside GN Construction and the wider project team through the delivery of the project, providing practical civil engineering input to help respond to site requirements and support construction.

Projects like this are a collaborative effort, and it has been great to work alongside the client, contractor and consultant team to help bring the development through to completion.

Congratulations to Precinct, GN Construction and everyone involved in delivering The Domain Collection.

There’s nothing quite like stepping inside a project you’ve spent so much time seeing on screen and on paper.

Babbage Architecture recently headed out to Chelsea Rise in Birkenhead for a site visit, giving the team the opportunity to explore the development as it takes shape and see the drawings come to life at full scale.

It was an educational and inspiring experience – from seeing how design decisions and detailing translate into the built environment, to experiencing the scale, spaces and spectacular outlook that you simply can’t get from a drawing.

Chelsea Rise delivers 77 apartments across eight storeys, making the most of its elevated site and panoramic views across the Waitematā Harbour and Auckland skyline.

A great day out for the team, and a rewarding reminder of why getting on site is such an important part of what we do.

Join us at next week's New Zealand Trade & Industrial Waters Forum (NZTIWF) 2026 in Palmerston North!

We're pleased to share that Louisa Hall, Environmental Consultant at Babbage, will be presenting on ...

📅 Friday 21 August | 🕛 12.00 pm | Co-designing Future Wastewater Discharge Options: Land Irrigation Feasibility Assessment for Councils

How can councils balance technical feasibility, environmental outcomes, cultural values and affordability when planning future wastewater solutions?

Louisa will share a case study from Whakatāne District Council, exploring the feasibility of land irrigation as a future wastewater discharge options.

The assessment was guided by the initial Taumata Arowai wastewater environmental performance standards, alongside expert understanding of wastewater systems and local environmental conditions. Through a co-design process involving Council, technical specialists and iwi/hapū partners, these considerations were brought together to support informed decision-making.

The presentation will explore the key constraints identified and why hybrid land and water discharge approaches emerged as potentially more practical and resilient long-term options.

If you're attending NZTIWF 2026, come along to hear about the lessons and opportunities for future wastewater planning in Aotearoa.

It was our absolute pleasure to host the Society of Façade Engineering at Babbage’s Auckland office on 7 August, bringing together professionals from across the façade and building industry for an evening of learning, discussion and networking.

The evening featured a great line-up of speakers, including …

• Stijn Van den Eeden, Chair NZ of the Society of Façade Engineering and Babbage’s Associate Principal External Envelope

• Stephen McNeil from Building Research Association of New Zealand (BRANZ), New Zealand's independent building research organisation, who presented How do we resolve E3 – Internal Moisture?

• Rob Campion from Window & Glass Association NZ (WGANZ), who gave an Introduction to WGANZ, the national industry body representing New Zealand's window, door and glass sector

With building façades becoming increasingly complex, events like these provide a valuable opportunity to share knowledge, discuss emerging challenges and strengthen connections across our industry.

Thanks to our speakers and thanks to all 75 of you who came along for a great evening of insightful presentations, engaging discussions and catching up with colleagues from across the industry.

Since opening at Rainbow's End, Pacifica has become a fantastic addition to the park, and we're proud to have contributed to its delivery.

Bringing this reimagined Pirate Ship to life took a real multi-disciplinary effort, with Babbage’s geotechnical, civil, structural, survey, and building services teams all involved. A ride like this places significant cyclic loads on its foundations – swinging a large object back and forth demands absolute precision in design, setout, and construction, particularly with legacy foundations from the original ride still in place.

There has been a clear focus throughout on getting the fundamentals right, from ground conditions through to construction quality, especially with the ride manufactured in Germany and assembled on site by an international team.

Beyond the structure, the experience itself is just as important. The building services team has been instrumental in bringing the ride to life, integrating power, lighting, sound, and communication systems to add those fun, immersive elements visitors expect.

It’s also been great to continue supporting the development of Rainbow’s End, including foundation design for Kidz Kingdom and rides such as Fearfall and Stratosfear.

This was a complex project with a great result seeing it open and being enjoyed.

Sharing knowledge and contributing to industry best practice is an important part of what we do at Babbage.

Our Principal Environmental Consultant, Rowan Freeman, will be presenting an upcoming ALGA webinar … Urban Residential Soils: Are We Underestimating Human Exposure to Arsenic and Lead?

As a Certified Environmental Practitioner – Site Contamination Specialist with more than 22 years' experience, Rowan will present the findings of original research examining more than 170 urban residential soil samples collected from non-HAIL properties across six regions of New Zealand.

The webinar will explore contaminant variability, bioaccessibility, the role of fine soil particles in potential human exposure, and the implications for contaminated land investigations and human health risk assessment within New Zealand's regulatory framework.
The session will be of interest to contaminated land consultants, regulators, local authorities, environmental scientists and researchers. Visit https://landandgroundwater.com/events/webinar-urban-residential-soils-are-we-underestimating-human-exposure-to-arsenic-and-lead/ to register.

🌿 Supporting the restoration of New Zealand's wetlands is something we're proud to be part of 🌿

Amit Krishna, one of Babbage's Fire Engineers, recently volunteered at Matuku Link (Waitākere, Auckland), helping plant native species to support the ongoing restoration of this important wetland. The reserve provides vital habitat for the endangered matuku-hūrepo (Australasian bittern) while creating healthier ecosystems for native flora and fauna.

Late last year, Babbage donated to the Bittern Conservation Trust to support its work at Matuku Link and other wetland conservation initiatives.

Despite a little drizzle, the softer soil made for ideal planting conditions – Amit says, “Protecting our natural environment is a shared effort, and it's rewarding to play a small part in helping these special places thrive for generations to come. It was a fantastic day spent alongside like-minded volunteers and enjoying some great hospitality afterwards”.

Babbage is pleased to have played a key role in the completion of this 8-storey project, bringing together the expertise of our Remediation and Façade Engineering teams to deliver a practical and durable outcome.

Through investigation, design, construction-phase support, and quality assurance, our teams developed and implemented façade remediation solutions that improved weathertightness, enhanced durability, and extended the service life of the building.

Collaboration was central to the project's success. Working closely with the contractor and project stakeholders allowed our teams to navigate challenges, maintain quality standards, and achieve a coordinated outcome from assessment through to completion.

This project highlights the value of multidisciplinary expertise in delivering resilient, high-performing building envelope solutions that stand the test of time.
