Remember W.E.T:
W – Check the weather on the Coastguard app
E – Check your equipment (well-fitting lifejackets for everyone + a safety grab bag onboard)
T – Take two forms of communication + tell someone your plan (PLB, waterproof phone, VHF marine radio)

A few simple checks can make all the difference. Stay safe and enjoy your Easter weekend on the water 🙌

For the last 20 years, has worked alongside the west coast rock fishing community to help keep fishers safe on Auckland’s wild coastline. 🎣

The West Coast Rock-Based Fishing Project, run with Surf Life Saving Northern Region and began after five fishers tragically lost their lives in 2005 — a moment that changed how we approach safety on the rocks.

Since then, the project has focused on understanding real rock fishing conditions and behaviours so tragedies like this can be prevented.
