New Zealand is moving to one single national standard for lifejackets on the water, replacing the old patchwork of regional council bylaws.

From today everyone on board a recreational vessel 6 metres and under MUST wear an approved lifejacket whenever the craft is underway.

Whether you’re in a trailer boat, alloy vessel, inflatable tender, jet ski, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard, if your craft is 6m or under and not anchored, tied to a dock, or made fast to shore—lifejackets on!

Don't let an unserviceable lifejacket or a missed rule ruin a great day out on the water. Clip it, zip it, and wear it!
