Emily Collings and Lochlan Spence Ihaka Marino Te Waru Hynd from the Ruru Engineering team recently took part in the ICE Student 360 Careers Expo, held at Te Pā on the beautiful The University of Waikato campus. They spent the day chatting with aspiring engineers—rangatahi full of ideas, drive, and ambition. It was a great opportunity to share honest advice, answer questions, and give a realistic look into what a career in engineering can offer. To everyone they met—stay curious, back yourselves, and keep building towards something great.

Ruru recently completed a detailed topographic survey for a local hapū in Lyttleton, aiding in the development of their site.

The stunning landscape was a pleasure to work on, even with its fair share of challenges and a good leg workout! Equipped with sun hats, Leica gear, and a bit of bush bashing, we delivered fantastic results. Our client is now ready to move forward with their project.

We initially established Ruru with the goal of creating opportunities and fostering support for as many people as possible. Today, we are incredibly proud to announce that Malindi Reihana-Ruka, an aspiring surveyor, has been awarded a $10,000 scholarship through the Waikato Tainui Business Partnership Scholarship, in collaboration with Ruru. This initiative not only supports rangatahi in their educational pursuits but also strengthens the pathway for Māori and Pasifika students into the fields of engineering and surveying.
Join us in congratulating Malindi on this remarkable achievement and in celebrating the enduring impact of educational support for our rangatahi. Here’s to many more successes and continued partnerships that help build a brighter, more inclusive Aotearoa.

Reflecting on the past week in Te Ao Māori, mourns the loss of our Kingi. The legacy of Kingi Tuheitia is one of unity and continued collaboration among Māori, and his efforts to bind the lashes of our waka will be felt for generations. With the welcoming of our new Kuini, Nga Wai Hono I Te Po, Ruru is excited for the new dawn of the Kīngitanga and eager to witness the change and growth of Aotearoa under her leadership. The future is bright, and we cannot wait to see where our wonderful new queen will take us. Mauri Ora!
