At 3D Hub, we love a project that pushes the limits and digitising the suspension system of a fully customised 1976 Holden Torana LX SS definitely fit the bill. With its mirror-chrome finish and complex suspension geometry, this Torana presented a serious scanning challenge. Add in the need to capture data in both compressed and uncompressed states, all to meet the tight tolerances of LVVTA certification requirements, and we were in our element.

Our solution:
We brought in our MetraSCAN 3D optical CMM scanner, a fast, high-precision system that doesn’t need surface targets or messy sprays. Setup took just 30 minutes, and from there, it was smooth sailing:
✔ Scanned both suspension states with ease
✔ No prep required, even on the chrome
✔ Delivered a detailed report ready for LVVTA certification

The result:
A seamless scan, a happy customer, and another example of how we help turn complex engineering into clean, actionable data. We’ve had great feedback on how efficient and accurate the process was - just how we like it.

We love solving these kinds of technical challenges, especially when we get to help New Zealanders bring their builds and ideas to life.

We recently produced silicone-molded sleeves and bag clamps for a food processing product using compression molding for short-run production. The parts were praised by our customer for their superior fit, quality, and finish - at a lower cost compared to previous manufacturing methods. The summer holidays are fast approaching and here at 3D Hub we’re reflecting on another year filled with amazing clients, great projects and products we’ve proudly helped bring to life. 2024 has been a big year for us, highlighted by the creation of mast head units, media stand cases, and microphone mounts for the America’s Cup.

This year we’ve seen New Zealand businesses navigating additional pressures. These circumstances have made our work more meaningful than ever. Collaborating with Kiwi businesses to bring their inventive product designs to life is what we find deep joy in and believe is important to supporting the New Zealand economy. We look forward to making 3D scanning, reverse engineering, CAD modelling, product design, mechanical design, low volume manufacturing and finite element analysis services as accessible as possible to Kiwi businesses in 2025.

We will be winding up for the year on 20th December and we look forward to returning rested, rejuvenated and raring to go on 13th January.

When 3D scanning the Hilux Ute our goal was to deliver precise scan data to support the design of a canopy for the ute tray. We scanned the tray, back window, and part of the roofline using our highly accurate Metro Scanner, achieving a 0.1mm accuracy. Our customer appreciated the clean, accurate data that provided a strong foundation for their design process - exactly why they chose us.

2024 is racing by. Here at 3D Hub, we’ve been working on exciting project after exciting project. This year, we've been creating media stands, microphones, and mast head units for the America's Cup.
