Partner agencies: Royal Norwegian Embassy in Nepal (RNE); Kathmandu University (KU); Hydro Lab Pvt. EnergizeNepal Program (ENEP) is established to accelerate the development of Nepalese hydropower and other renewable energy systems, develop new and innovative technologies to reduce cost,

increase efficiency contextual to Nepalese conditions, enhance human resource development to carry out research as well as effectively apply research results to solve challenges of hydropower and other renewable energy development in Nepal. It provides financial support to collaborative R&D projects related to Renewable Energy Technology (RET), planned and implemented by R&D institutions in Nepal in cooperation with local industries and Norwegian institutions and industries. The Project is funded by The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and is managed by Kathmandu University (KU), Nepal, In Partnership with Hydrolab Nepal, NTNU, Norway and SINTEF, Norway. ENEP will promote and support development of new and innovative technologies through research and will support development of physical facilities and human competencies to carry out the research as well as subsequent commercialization of these technologies. It will do this through institute-industry partnership, wide ranging stakeholder collaboration and by supporting business incubation. ENEP will have two components: Hydropower Development Component and RenewableNepal Phase II (RENP II) Component. Constant effort will be made to ensure synergies and mutual support between the components. The Hydropower Development Component aims to promote and support innovative research for generating new knowledge for solving common hydropower development problems. It will focus on research and human resources development in the fields of hydraulics and sedimentation, geology and geo techniques, mechanical and electrical equipment and power systems. The RENP II component aims to increase Nepal's capacity to utilize its huge renewable energy resources by supporting applied R&D projects implemented through the partnership of research institutes and private sector companies in the field of small and medium scale renewable energy systems. Research institutions will provide skilled experts and specialized facilities, whereas private sector organizations will identify research topics. ENEP will provide funding and other support for such research activities. ENEP will also provide business support services for commercialization of innovative products and services through RENP II component.

EnergizeNepal Program jointly with Kathmandu University Business Incubation Centre , hosted an interaction session with incubator and BDS Provider on August 7, 2024 where key stakeholders and representative from incubation centre participated to explore potential areas of collaboration and partnership, focusing on driving mutual growth and innovation.

Participants shared valuable insights and experiences from their respective incubators, fostering a rich exchange of knowledge. It was decided to host these interaction meetings on a monthly basis. Each session will be led by a different consortium partner, ensuring diverse perspectives and continued momentum. We are excited about the potential this collaboration holds and look forward to the innovative projects and partnerships that will emerge from these regular interactions. The Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Ms. Sunita Dangol visited EnergizeNepal Program Office. During her visit, we discussed about EnergizeNepal's projects which can be align with the municipality’s goals for improving energy infrastructure and sustainability as well as partnership that can lead to joint efforts in promoting renewable energy, implementing business incubation activities and so on. This collaboration could also involve exploring funding opportunities, community outreach programs, and developing policies that support long-term entrepreneurship ecosystem and sustainability.

EnergizeNepal Program jointly with Kathmandu University Business Incubation Centre hosted an Interaction Meeting with KUBIC supported business enterprises on August 1, 2024, where the Vice Chancellor, RDI Director, KUBIC school coordinators and KUBIC-supported business enterprises gathered to discuss their progress and future aspirations. The startup companies shared their status and the valuable lessons they've learned on their journeys. Brijesh Adhikary, Director of RDI, KU, motivated everyone to keep pushing forward and strive for excellence, reminding us that success comes to those who seize the moment. Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa expressed his satisfaction with the young minds' dedication to staying in the country and pursuing business ventures, emphasizing that opportunities abound for those willing to take the leap.

We talked,amongst others, buyers, prescribers, payers...market segmentation, the importance of dealing with truly unmet needs...and preferably addressing them with (highly!) paid-for products & services.
Lots of interactions and challenging within the team who had a chance to formalise their understanding of their marketplace.

The Falling Walls Lab Kathmandu 2024, hosted for the first time in Nepal at Kathmandu University School of Management with collaboration with DAAD India and Falling Wall Foundation, brought together over 100 participants and 10 finalists who were selected to showcase their solutions in three-minute pitches and presented their innovative ideas aimed at addressing global challenges before a distinguished jury and an engaged audience.

Frienson Pradhan clinched the first prize with his visionary concept "Breaking the Wall of Pestilence: From Invasive W**d to Eco-Friendly Mosquito Control." He will now represent Nepal in the prestigious Falling Walls Lab Final in Berlin!
Anjana Tamang secured second place with her innovative approach merging high-cost fiber machines with agricultural practices for sustainable community development. Gaurav Adhikari claimed the third prize for his idea focused on enhancing food security. The audience choice award went to Anup Godar for his idea on LEO Experiment and Research, highlighting the development of a sounding rocket.
