*THE END*

After over 3 years of working on circular biomaterials, prototyping different products and handling financial constraints, we have decided to close ComposTerra.

In 2021 we started out as a multi-disciplinary collective of students eager to explore a transformative concept across the fields of business, science, politics, and local community engagement. Ultimately we didn’t manifest a continuable way forward.

We don't see this as a failure but as a learning, a gain in expertise, skills and human connection. And we are immensely grateful for everyone who supported us along the way 🙏💛

➡️ Some of our tools and equipment will be available for sale over the summer. If you are interested, come meet us at our Open House next Friday, June 28th from 14-16H at the Qeske Maastricht (François de Veyestraat 8B, 6221 AB Maastricht).

Work in progress 🤟

We recently partnered with Helian Polymers (Venlo, NL) to develop a biobased, biodegradable, food-contact safe and water-proof coating (yep, that's a lot of requests😝).

✨️ Here are the first results! ✨️

The coating is translucid so you can still see our beautiful biomaterial. It is also super nice to the touch and it keeps water away overnigth! 💛

Although it is not perfect yet, we couldn't be happier with these first results on our flat samples. Later on we'll show you the preliminary results on our cups, where the coating is more tricky to apply (and doesn't look as nice 🙂🙃).

So, still a lot of work to do!

⭐ Looking back at successful trials! Our team has been working with a residue stream from coffee roastery and we're excited to say that we've created our first large batch of coffee fleece cups.

⚙️ This wouldn't have been possible without the help of our new team member Ion Radu, who has made significant improvements to the biopress to enlarge our production capacity. In the coming weeks we’ll be fine-tuning safety adjustments, and we're feeling optimistic about what's to come.

🙏 We'd like to extend our gratitude to Maastricht for financing this pilot through the Creative Makers Subsidy. This opportunity has allowed us to explore innovative ways to transform local waste into practical products at Qeske Maastricht.

♻ As we continue to learn and grow, we're committed to valorise waste-streams and form valuable partnerships to get our products onto the market.

🏫 Gisteren waren we op bezoek bij wethouder Mackus van Gemeente Maastricht]. We praatten over ComposTerra's circulaire pilot en de haalbaarheidsstudie naar een circulaire makers space in 2023.

📝 Honest note:

It is not easy starting up an innovative project with sustainability at its core.

Our type of entrepreneurship is sometimes misunderstood, and our young female leads have not always being well regarded in the eyes of investors (old male investors, that is).

However, the effort of our team members and enthusiasm of our public keeps us going 💪and slowly but steady we are getting recognition in Limburg and the Netherlands 💛

After a reflective summer, we enter the last quarter of the year with new energy and a lot of excitement 🙌
