Privacy doesn’t have to mean less daylight or less view.

A second façade can serve several purposes at once.

By playing with perforation, pattern, viewing angle and distance, a façade can filter views while preserving daylight, outlook and a connection with the surroundings.

Privacy is therefore not simply a matter of open or closed. It is about consciously designing what is visible, from which direction and under which circumstances.

A second façade can become an intermediate layer that brings together privacy, daylight, views and architectural expression.

A historic façade. A contemporary second skin.

For the rooftop extension of Van Ostadestraat 89–93 in Amsterdam, we developed an MD Formatura façade whose pattern is inspired by the building's original architectural detailing.

From the workshop to the underwater world.

After five years at Metadecor, Aldert is about to start a new adventure as a diving instructor on Bonaire.

Before he leaves, we sat down with him to talk about his passion for diving, his time at Metadecor and the adventure ahead.

We are grateful for his craftsmanship, dedication and positive attitude over the past five years and wish him every success in this exciting new chapter.

Vote for Stadsschouwburg Kortrijk

With this project, Metadecor is competing in the Construsoft BIM Awards 2026.

Most people will simply see a façade.
We see complex geometries, BIM coordination, tolerances, custom details and a LOT of engineering!

Some projects are worth revisiting.

Four years after completion, we revisited Hart van de Waalsprong in Nijmegen to capture the project once again and to see how the architecture has settled into the city.

For this parking structure, Metadecor realised a façade of rolled aluminium perforated panels combined with vertical fins, creating depth, rhythm and constantly shifting shadow lines throughout the day.

What appears as one calm architectural volume from a distance reveals an extraordinary level of detailing up close: curvature, perforation, repetition and precision engineering working together as one system.

A project that still feels fresh, refined and remarkably relevant years after completion.

Building your own headquarters with your own cranes. That’s Hoeflon.

Congratulations to Hoeflon on the official opening of the new headquarters and on celebrating 20 years of innovation!

For this project, Metadecor realised the perforated façade of the striking entrance volume using MD Designperforation.

The façade changes throughout the day through light, depth and transparency: while the installation phase perfectly reflected the identity of the company itself: the panels were lifted into place using Hoeflon’s own compact cranes.

A great example of engineering, identity and ex*****on coming together in one project.

“Daar zit voor mij de meeste voldoening: gebouwen echt een smoel geven.”

Martin Elslo werkt al ruim tien jaar bij Metadecor. In die tijd groeide hij door naar ontwerpleider, hoofd engineering en voorzitter van het strategisch team.

In een nieuw interview vertelt hij over complexe gevelprojecten, samenwerken met verschillende disciplines en de ontwikkeling van gevels die steeds slimmer reageren op licht, comfort en omgeving.

Van semi-transparante gevels tot bewegende concepten zoals SOMBRA: techniek en esthetiek moeten volgens hem altijd samenkomen.

On days like this, you really notice how much light defines a building.
What a façade does doesn’t stop at the outside.

Sunlight doesn’t just shape the appearance of a façade, it directly influences the experience inside. Patterns, shadows and transparency shift throughout the day.

That interplay between light and material is what makes a façade more than just an outer skin.

At the same time, that same façade has to withstand the other side of the spectrum: heavy rain, wind and increasingly extreme conditions.

It requires careful choices in material, detailing and fixing and, above all, early alignment in the design process.
