Martin Elslo werkt al ruim tien jaar bij Metadecor. In die tijd groeide hij door naar ontwerpleider, hoofd engineering en voorzitter van het strategisch team.

In een nieuw interview vertelt hij over complexe gevelprojecten, samenwerken met verschillende disciplines en de ontwikkeling van gevels die steeds slimmer reageren op licht, comfort en omgeving.

Van semi-transparante gevels tot bewegende concepten zoals SOMBRA: techniek en esthetiek moeten volgens hem altijd samenkomen.

On days like this, you really notice how much light defines a building.
What a façade does doesn’t stop at the outside.

Sunlight doesn’t just shape the appearance of a façade, it directly influences the experience inside. Patterns, shadows and transparency shift throughout the day.

That interplay between light and material is what makes a façade more than just an outer skin.

At the same time, that same façade has to withstand the other side of the spectrum: heavy rain, wind and increasingly extreme conditions.

It requires careful choices in material, detailing and fixing and, above all, early alignment in the design process.

Great façades don’t happen at the end of the process.

The real impact?
That happens in the translation.
from idea to something that can actually be built.

Not by taking over the design,
but by strengthening it.

Sometimes with less material.
More freedom.

OUT OF OFFICE From July 28 to August 18, Metadecor will be closed for ‘BouwVak’ (collective construction vacation – that’s a thing in The Netherlands). That does not mean that we won’t think about projects or façades… During our holidays, we continue to look around at (historically) old façades and pounder on new ideas that we can incorporate in future projects. Call it occupational deformation… you probably recognize the urge.

Of course we will use the summer vacation to recharge. Our main purpose: to collect enough (solar) energy to help you again starting week 34. Hope to see or speak to you then. But first, have a nice summer! ☀️😎

Summer’s coming, time to relax! But we’re also looking forward to what’s next… because we are working on some amazing new projects at Metadecor:

✔️ A9 Studios Uitgeest – Façade cladding by MD Expanded Metal with rotating shutters in a warm AluCopper shade (architect: .M. Alferink) – under construction;
✔️ Ter Hoeven Paint Group Apeldoorn – A façade by MD Formatura in a bold RAL 3020 red (architect: Architecten) – engineering stage;
✔️ Waalkwartier Nijmegen, Iris building – A robust façade band by MD Flack in Tanami Sablé (architect: architects) – mockup is being tested;
✔️ Souburgh Healthcare Center Waddinxveen – Façade featuring planters with MD Designperforation in a soft green RAL 6011 (architect: Architecten) – under construction.
