AGRICULTURE AS THE MEANS OF EMPLOYMENT.
Employment is defined as persons of working age who were engaged in any activity to produce goods or services for pay or profit, whether at work during the reference period or not at work due to temporary absence from a job, or to working-time arrangement.
Technology and the internet are probably the first thing that comes to mind when you think about the future of work for young people, not agriculture or farming. This makes historic sense at AGRICULTURE sheds labour when countries develop, And the traditional ways of producing food do not look sexy. Yet, technology and the internet are also opening up opportunity for agriculture urbanization and changing diets and also calling for new ways to process, market and consume our food.
AGRICULTURE can provide job opportunities for youth. Undoubtedly the share of farming job is shrinking, as countries urbanize, and income rise food expenditure decline as a share of total spending and farmers take up job off the farm. Yet the process can only be sustained if labour productivity farming increased.
