Does Nigeria have a power generation problem or a power delivery problem?
Nigeria currently generates and distributes only a fraction of the electricity required to support a population of over 200 million people.
Recently, discussions around adding 10,000MW to Nigeria's power supply have once again sparked national conversations. The question, however, is not whether the target sounds ambitious.
The real question is:
Can Nigeria generate it?
Can Nigeria transmit it?
Can Nigeria distribute it?
Can Nigeria sustain it?
As engineers, industry players, and stakeholders, we understand that power generation is only one piece of the puzzle. Transmission infrastructure, distribution networks, maintenance culture, technology adoption, investment, and policy consistency all play critical roles.
If Nigeria successfully increased available power by 10,000MW within the next few years, what do you believe would be the biggest challenge:
Generation?
Transmission?
Distribution?
Funding?
Policy and regulation?
We would love to hear perspectives from professionals across the energy and engineering sectors.
