We also delved into the practical side of sustainability — understanding not just what to use, but how to build responsibly. Our team discussed major hurdles architects face when implementing green strategies (case in-point the recycling of water within in mid-rise ad high-rise buildings) and identified key practices that make sustainability achievable rather than aspirational. The conversation was grounded in context, exploring how architecture can serve both people and the planet without sacrificing modern performance or aesthetic ambition. Each insight reinforced the idea that sustainability starts with intention and grows through shared knowledge.

This raises an important question:
👉 When we face resistance in the implementation of green sustainable practices, how do we convince the clients towards green architecture and ensure that we get the best results for projects we're involved in?

We’d love to hear how others in the field approach this challenge.

Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword — it’s a core
foundation of architectural thinking. At our last team-building session, we explored the evolution of sustainable architectural design, reflecting on how innovation and responsibility can coexist in practice. The discussion highlighted the potential of modern materials like Interlocking Stabilized Soil Blocks (ISSBs) and recycled composites to redefine what sustainable construction can look like in Nigeria. Beyond materials, we examined how design intent/considerations meet on-site realities, from funding constraints to material sourcing challenges, and how collaboration remains key in bridging that gap.

To bring theory closer to real-life, we reflected on case studies like The Laterite House in Lagos, the Nigerian National Park Museum, and UNILAG’s Faculty of Engineering multipurpose halls — all strong examples of eco-conscious design meeting functionality. We also examined eco-lodges across Nigeria (Obudu, Cross Rivers & some places in the Niger Delta) that integrate vernacular techniques and local materials, proving that sustainable design doesn’t have to imitate the West; it can proudly emerge from within. The session left us inspired to continue building with purpose, mindful of our environment, and motivated to keep redefining what “sustainable” means in the Nigerian context.

There’s something deeply fulfilling about watching a space evolve from concept to construction—and finally into use.

That vision came to life recently when the University of Uyo held a training on Corporate Image Branding and Visual Content Creation in the facility we designed and delivered.

Seeing the space filled with people learning, sharing, and creating was a proud moment for our team. What was once just a drawing on paper now serves as an environment for knowledge and collaboration.

The event was graced by dignitaries, including the Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, which further underscored the significance of this milestone as we gave our goodwill to the institution. But for us, the highlight was simple: this building is no longer just a project—it’s a living, breathing part of the community.

We look forward to seeing many more moments like this as the space continues to serve its purpose and inspire the people who use it.

When applying Life Cycle Cost Analysis & Value Engineering (LCCA–VE), one of the biggest hurdles isn’t always the technical work—it’s getting buy-in. Stakeholders may focus on immediate costs, while the real value often lies in long-term performance and sustainability.

This raises an important question:
👉 When we face resistance in LCCA–VE discussions, what strategies can help us shift stakeholder perspectives toward long-term value instead of short-term savings?

We’d love to hear how others in the field approach this challenge.

In today’s-built environment, the true cost of a decision isn’t always visible upfront. Its impact unfolds over time—shaping performance, sustainability, and value. This perspective guided our recent team building session on Life Cycle Cost Analysis and Value Engineering, making the session such a game-changer.

The session combined structured learning with interactive discussions, allowing us to examine practical case studies and challenge assumptions around cost, efficiency, and value delivery. Beyond the technical insights, it was an opportunity to strengthen collaboration with discussions and align our approach to delivering solutions that are both cost-conscious and value driven.

ACL is grateful for a team that challenges itself to dig deeper, and for the energy everyone brought into the room. Excited to carry these insights into upcoming projects where cost and value meet innovation.
