Thinking of Starting a Bakery in Nigeria? PT 1
Read This Before You Buy a Single Bag of Flour. 🥐🥖🍞

At Fexicon Bakery Equipment, we don’t just sell machines; we partner with bakery owners nationwide. Over the years, we’ve watched hundreds of bakeries launch. Some become massive household names, while others fold within six months.

The difference isn't usually the taste of the bread—it’s the business strategy.

If you are planning to establish a bakery in Nigeria today, here is the raw, unvarnished truth and practical blueprint you need to succeed.

1. Start Small, but Think Big
Don’t rush into a massive industrial setup from day one. Start with a solid mini or medium-sized kitchen. Master your production process, lock down your distribution channels, and then scale up. Over-investing in massive infrastructure too early is the number one graveyard for new bakeries.

2. Learn the Skill Yourself (Learn the Asiri)
Even if you plan to hire the best master bakers in the country, you must understand the baking process. You need to know how the dough reacts to the weather, how fermentation works, and how to spot a bad batch. If you don't know the craft, you are entirely at the mercy of your staff.

3. Location is Everything
Bread is a volume game. Your bakery needs to be where the people are. Look for high-density areas, busy streets, markets, or major bus stops. Make sure it is easily accessible for distributors (the Agege bread sellers and retailers) who will buy from you in bulk. Avoid isolated areas.

4. Power is Your Biggest Risk—Plan For It
Let’s be honest: relying on the national grid to bake bread is a recipe for heartbreak. Unstable power will ruin your dough mid-fermentation and kill your margins.
The Setup: You need a reliable generator and, crucially, a gas oven or a diesel rotary oven.
Save the purely electric ovens for when your business expands and stabilizes.

5. Buy Only Essential Equipment (Don't Capital Starve Yourself)
You do not need every shiny machine in the catalog to start. Keep your startup capital focused on the essentials that directly impact output and quality:
A heavy-duty Dough Mixer (to save time and labor)
A reliable Gas or Diesel Oven
Durable Working Tables
Precise Weighing Scales and quality Bread Pans
