General information

The 2015 Perodua Axia is Malaysia’s most affordable car and also our nation’s first energy efficient vehicle (EEV). This Daihatsu Ayla-based, five-door A-segment hatch is basically the replacement for the Viva. Priced from RM24, 437.16 to RM41, 967.15, it competes with other A-segment hatchbacks like the Kia Picanto, Suzuki Alto and Hyundai i10. All Axia variants are powered by the naturally aspirated, 1KR-DE2 three-cylinder electronic fuel injected engine that produces 65hp at 6,000rpm and 90Nm at 3,600Nm. That doesn’t sound like much, but do take note that even the range topping Axia Advance weighs only 850kg. There are two gearbox options – a five speed stick shift and a four-speed automatic. Fuel consumption for the former is rated at 21.6km per litre, while the latter will return 20.1km for one litre of fuel.
