Sustainability is often discussed at the end of a project. In reality, it is shaped much earlier.

Design decisions influence how efficiently systems operate, how much energy is consumed and how often rework is required over time. Once systems are built, these factors are much harder to change.

The long-term environmental impact of infrastructure is not defined at completion. It is determined by the decisions made at the start.
