Concrete Slump Test

The Concrete Slump Test is used to measure the workability and consistency of fresh concrete before placement.

Procedure:

1. Place the slump cone on a level surface.

2. Fill the cone in 3 equal layers.

3. Compact each layer with 25 rod strokes.

4. Lift the cone vertically.

5. Measure the vertical drop (slump) of the concrete.

Purpose:

Check concrete workability.

Ensure uniform concrete quality.

Verify suitability for construction work.

Types of Slump:

True Slump – Good quality concrete.

Shear Slump – Indicates lack of cohesion.

Collapse Slump – Concrete is too wet.

Typical Slump Range:

0–25 mm → Very Low

25–50 mm → Low

50–100 mm → Medium

100–175 mm → High

175–200 mm → Very High

Acceptance Criteria

Brick Class / Type Maximum Permissible Water Absorption

First Class Bricks Must not exceed 15% of dry weight

Second Class Bricks Must not exceed 20% of dry weight

Third Class Bricks Must not exceed 25% of dry weight

Vitrified Bricks Generally absorbs less than 3%
