BiON, our story

BiON is one of Malaysia’s most established environmental engineering and renewable energy solutions providers. Our mission is to reduce environmental pollution and empower waste-to-wealth creation through the provision of sustainable solutions and services.

Today, our focus is on building and operating biogas power plants to generate renewable energy from the treatment of palm oil mill effluent (POME). The biogas power plants, which are located on or near the site of a palm oil mill, capture the greenhouse gases (namely, methane) released by the POME and convert this into electricity. We develop the plants either as an Independent Power Producer (IPP) – selling power to the grid – or as an Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) contractor for the mill owner.

As an IPP, BiON currently has two fully-owned grid-connected biogas power plants in Malaysia: a 2.0MW plant at Malpom, Penang and a 2.0MW plant at Kahang, Johor.

Over the last four decades, as an EPCC contractor, we have established an extensive track record in the provision of wastewater treatment and waste-to-energy solutions. BiON has delivered over 140 environmental engineering projects in Malaysia and elsewhere in Asia, including commissioning more than 30 anaerobic reactors for the rubber and palm oil sectors, and the construction of 19 digesters for numerous types of wastewater treatment plants.
