🌊 Equality is in the Flow!

Happy World Water Day! 🌏 Did you know that when communities gain access to safe water, gender equality grows?

This year’s slogan—"Where water flows, equality grows"—reminds us that water is more than just a resource; it’s a tool for empowerment.

As a center dedicated to water research and innovation, UWC is committed to developing solutions that bridge the gap in water accessibility. Because when women and girls are empowered in water leadership and management, the whole community benefits.

It was an honor for our Director, Associate Professor Dr. Rosmina Ahmad Bustami, to represent UNIMAS Water Centre (UWC) at the Civil & Environmental Engineering Technology Seminar (CENTS) hosted by BINUS University.

Speaking at the "Women in Civil Engineering" session allowed Dr Rosmina to share insights on both her professional and personal journey. We believe that bridging academic and industry knowledge across borders is essential to mould the future generations. She is a strong believer in humanizing engineering.

Also invited as speakers were Dr Ayomi Dita from Universitas Indonesia and Dr Adelia Nataadmadja from BINUS University. The session was moderated by Dr Yureana Wijayanti.

Thank you HIMTES BINUS University for the invitation and the audience for an engaging Q&A session!

11 February 2026

Heartiest congratulations to Prof. Ir. Dr. Lai Sai Hin and the team on the successful acceptance of the Inception Report for the project:

“Kajian Simbiosis Kebolehlaksanaan Mikroalga dan Bakteria Untuk Penyerapan Logam Berat yang Optimum”

The report was formally accepted by the Humid Tropics Centre Kuala Lumpur (HTC KL) in Cyberjaya, Selangor, marking an important milestone for this research initiative.

This achievement reflects the team’s dedication, expertise, and commitment towards advancing sustainable solutions in heavy metal remediation through microalgae–bacteria symbiosis.

Well done to everyone involved. Looking forward to the next phase of this impactful journey.

Another achievement under UWC’s belt. Congratulations Prof Ir Dr Lai Sai Hin & team!

Precision in Research: Mastering Statistical Significance with DOE & RSM 📊💧

At the UNIMAS Water Centre, we believe that high-impact research is built on a foundation of mathematical rigor. We recently concluded an intensive workshop on "Design of Experiment (DOE) X Response Surface Method (RSM)," led by Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Ahmad Kueh Beng Hong.

The core takeaway? Efficiency doesn't mean cutting corners, it means statistical empowerment. Dr. Ahmad Kueh guided our participants through:

- Statistically Valid Sampling: Using DOE to select experimental cases that are mathematically significant, ensuring every data point contributes to a reliable outcome.
- Beyond Trial and Error: Reducing time and costs by eliminating redundant testing while maintaining the integrity of both physical and numerical analyses.
- Response Surface Optimization: Analyzing the relationship between factors and responses to find the absolute "sweet spot" for any given system.

Whether it’s an undergraduate FYP or a complex faculty research project, moving from "observation" to "statistical significance" is how we drive innovation in water engineering.

Engineering a greener tomorrow! 🌏🌱

The Faculty of Engineering (FENG) at UNIMAS recently hosted 18 students and a liaison officer from Jiangsu Normal University Kewen College, China, for a dynamic academic mobility programme held from January 18 to 27, 2026. A highlight of the visit was the "Climate Change and Engineering Solutions" module, coordinated by the UNIMAS Water Centre.

Students from diverse academic backgrounds—including Software Engineering, Management, and Economics—collaborated in multidisciplinary teams to tackle real-world climate issues. Through a hands-on design challenge, they acted as strategic consultancies to propose innovative solutions for urban stormwater management, renewable energy infrastructure, green mobility, and solar harvesting. The session successfully reinforced the vital role of engineering innovation in building a more climate-resilient and sustainable future.

Special thanks to the team who made this possible:
Instructors: Ir Dr Norazlina Bateni & Dr Ron Aldrino Chan
Facilitators: Ir Sitti Aishah Najamudin, Adzhar Khairulzaim, Marjorie Maria Lympa, and Nuqman Nadeem
