Engineered for one of the most significant deepwater developments currently under ex*****on offshore Africa, Ruhrpumpen has recently supplied API 610 centrifugal pumps designed to handle purified diesel oil in demanding FPSO service conditions.

In offshore production facilities, purified diesel oil plays a vital role in supporting auxiliary and safety-related systems, where a stable and reliable fuel supply is essential for continuous operation. These applications demand pumps capable of maintaining precise flow and pressure conditions while operating under harsh marine environments and strict reliability standards.

The supplied SCE-L 2X1X10 pump package delivers 24.3 m³/h at 110.5 m head, powered by a 37 kW driver, combining operational reliability and robust performance for critical offshore applications.

Projects of this scale require high reliability, operational continuity and equipment capable of performing under severe offshore environments where safety and uptime are essential.

What started as a targeted upgrade quickly evolved into a full-scale modernization project, delivering far greater value for our customer.

At our Witten facility, we were initially engaged to upgrade five rotors from a long-serving pump operating in a major European crude-oil pipeline. However, after a deeper technical assessment and close collaboration with the customer, the scope expanded into a comprehensive retrofit of the entire pump.

Our team delivered a complete modernization, including:

1. Integration of multiple new components.
2. Rebuild and remachining of the casing.
3. Advanced magnetic particle and pressure testing.
4. Installation of upgraded mechanical seals.
5. Adaptation of the operating point to meet current requirements.

One of the most impactful improvements was the redesign of the impeller with staggered vanes, achieving over 50% vibration reduction compared to the original configuration.

The results speak for themselves. After the successful upgrade of the first unit, the customer moved forward with the remaining pumps, now progressing through unit 2 of 5, with even higher specifications applied to critical components.

This project is a clear example of how a well-executed retrofit can extend equipment life, improve performance, and adapt legacy assets to today’s operational demands, without the need for full replacement.

For one of the newest and most relevant FPSOs under development offshore Angola, Ruhrpumpen supplied SCE 10x8x16 pumps designed to handle hydrocarbons and produced water under demanding offshore conditions. Each unit is engineered to deliver a flow of 572 m³/h, a pump head of 57 meters, and a power rating of 132 kW, ensuring reliable performance in continuous operation.

In FPSO operations, managing produced water and hydrocarbon streams is critical for safe, continuous, and efficient production. These pumps play a key role in fluid handling processes, supporting separation systems and enabling reliable transfer within the platform.

This contributes directly to operational stability, process efficiency, and environmental compliance, key factors in modern offshore developments.

The FPSO, part of a deepwater development, is designed for production, processing, and storage of crude oil, with an estimated capacity of around 70,000 barrels per day and storage of up to 1.6 million barrels.

Projects like this reflect the industry’s move toward more efficient and sustainable offshore solutions, where reliability and performance of every component truly matter, and where Ruhrpumpen supports these operations with robust pumping solutions designed for continuous and efficient performance.

In environments where water availability is limited and environmental pressure is high, we help make new ways of operating possible.

We delivered two SM (BB3) 6x12 pumps engineered for demanding desalination service, featuring 8 stages, a flow of 373 m³/h, a discharge pressure of 111 bar, and a power rating of 1,078 kW, supporting operations in northern .

These pumps will play a key role in transporting desalinated seawater from the Pacific coast to a mining operation located more than 100 km inland and at high elevation in the Andes.

The units are manufactured in D-1 material, selected for its enhanced corrosion resistance and its ability to withstand the aggressive conditions associated with desalinated seawater service, ensuring long-term reliability and performance. This delivery is part of a total scope of 9 units.

The use of desalinated water responds to regional conditions where water scarcity, environmental pressure, and restrictions on freshwater usage require alternative solutions.

It supports essential processes such as mineral processing, copper concentration, and overall plant operations, enabling the mine to operate without impacting local freshwater resources.
