EUBAM Libya was delighted to co-host the Europe Day celebrations in Tripoli together with the EU Delegation. EUBAM Libya and Operation IRINI explore initiatives supporting Libyan maritime authorities

At the Headquarters of EUNAVFOR MED Operation IRINI in Rome, Operation Commander Admiral Casapieri welcomed EUBAM Libya Head of Mission and EU Head of Delegation together with Ambassadors from EU Member States based in Libya as well as several like-minded partners. The exchanges focused on IRINI’s role within a changing regional and global environment, as well as on opportunities to deepen support to Libyan maritime authorities nationwide through training initiatives, capacity development, and closer cooperation.

Operation IRINI represents the European Union’s enduring maritime security engagement in the Mediterranean and remains an important contribution to Libya’s progress towards peace and stability. The operation plays a central role in addressing security risks at sea, ensuring compliance with international maritime law, and responding to hybrid threats, including those affecting critical infrastructure.

In honour of International Women's Day, the EU Delegation to Libya and EUBAM Libya were privileged to host a group of distinguished Libyan women for a Ramadan Iftar. The aim of this Iftar was to celebrate women working in and on security.

This gathering was more than a meal, it was a safe space and dialogue on the essential role women play in Libya’s security, stability, and future prosperity.

بمناسبة اليوم العالمي للمرأة، تشرفت بعثة الاتحاد الأوروبي لدى ليبيا وبعثة الاتحاد الأوروبي للدعم في الإدارة المتكاملة للحدود في ليبيا (إيوبام - ليبيا) باستضافة مجموعة من السيدات الليبيات المتميزات على مأدبة إفطار رمضانية. كان الهدف من هذا الإفطار هو تكريم النساء العاملات في القطاع الأمني والمساهمات فيه.

هذا التجمع ليس مجرد مأدبة طعام، بل كان مساحة آمنة ومنصة للحوار حول الدور الجوهري الذي تلعبه المرأة في تعزيز أمن ليبيا واستقرارها وازدهارها المستقبلي.

إدارة الحدود الفعّالة تعني الإدماج الكامل للنساء والرجال

في اليوم العالمي للمرأة، نؤكد أن إدارة الحدود الفعّالة تتجاوز مجرد الخطوط على الخريطة أو الحواجز المادية، فهي تتعلق أيضاً بالأفراد القائمين على العمليات وضمان الإدماج الكامل للنساء والرجال على حد سواء. هذا شرط أساسي للنجاح، إذ تُسهم وجهات النظر المختلفة في إيجاد حلول أفضل للمشاكل، ورفع مستوى الوعي بالوضع، وبناء أنظمة أكثر مرونة.

فلنتوقف عن النظر إلى التنوع كغاية، ولنبدأ بالتعامل معه كضرورة حتمية.

Effective border management means full inclusion of women and men

Today on the International Women’s Day, we emphasize that effective border management is about much more than lines on a map or physical barriers. It is also about the people behind the operations and ensuring the full inclusion of both women and men. It is a fundamental requirement for success. Different perspectives lead to better problem solving, higher situational awareness, and more resilient systems.

Let’s stop viewing diversity as a goal and start treating it as the necessity it is.
