RIKON repeats for First Dry Port Terminal (Uzbekistan)

RIKON has successfully commissioned a second RMG-type container gantry crane at the facilities of “First Dry Port Terminal” LLC in Tashkent.

Following the successful implementation of the first project, which was reported earlier, the company focused on the next one, in accordance with the previously concluded contract. This repeat order serves as a strong testament to RIKON’s reputation as a reliable supplier of high-tech, high-performance lifting equipment.

The new crane is identical to the previously installed unit and features a maximum lifting capacity of 41 tons under spreader. Key technical specifications include a 10.8 m cantilever length, 7 m operating outreach, and 17.1 m span between the legs. The crane is equipped with advanced control systems from leading global manufacturers, ensuring exceptional reliability, precision in operations, and energy efficiency.

Like the first crane, the new RMG will handle container operations in the terminal’s expansion area, which serves as a crucial link in the international “East-West” and “North-South” transport corridors. The development of First Dry Port Terminal’s infrastructure, located on the historic Great Silk Road, holds strategic importance for regional economic development and enhanced trade connectivity between Asia and Europe. The terminal spans 22 hectares and features 8 railway tracks with a total length of 5,300 meters, a covered customs warehouse, an open customs area, a customs control zone, and loading/unloading platforms.

The commissioning of this additional equipment will enable the terminal to handle growing cargo traffic more efficiently, boost operational productivity, and strengthen its position as a strategic logistics hub of international importance.

RIKON serially manufactures gantry container cranes for ports and container terminals, and this completed project reaffirms the company’s status as a reliable partner for modern logistics infrastructure development.

RIKON Completes Installation of Two Remote-Controlled Gantry Container Cranes at València-Font de Sant Lluís Terminal (Spain)

RIKON has successfully completed the installation of two 40-ton capacity RMG gantry container cranes equipped with the RROS (RIKON Remote Operation System) at the València-Font de Sant Lluís intermodal terminal in Spain. RIKON’s in-house development of a remote-control system for gantry container cranes places the company among the few manufacturers that design and implement such high-tech solutions.

The València-Font de Sant Lluís terminal is operated by ADIF, Spain’s state railway infrastructure operator, and serves as a key logistics hub on Europe’s Mediterranean coast. The terminal specializes in container cargo handling (up to 150,000 intermodal units annually) and multimodal transport, providing efficient connectivity between the Port of Valencia — Spain’s largest container port with a throughput of 5.4 million TEU in 2022 — and inland rail routes, including the strategically important Mediterranean Corridor.

The installation of the two new RIKON gantry cranes featuring the RROS remote control system represents a significant technological advancement for the terminal. Each crane is equipped with its own remote desktop, allowing operators to monitor and control the equipment with maximum precision and comfort. This solution not only substantially improves operational efficiency and safety but also enhances working conditions by reliably protecting personnel from adverse environmental factors.

Furthermore, RIKON continues its active operations in Spain’s capital, currently executing a project to supply three fully automated A-RMG gantry cranes with a 40-ton lifting capacity for the Madrid-Vicálvaro terminal. These projects demonstrate RIKON’s strong commitment to – and successful implementation of – cutting-edge technological solutions in container handling and multimodal transportation.

The completion of crane installation in Valencia marks a new phase in the development of the València-Font de Sant Lluís terminal, enhancing its operational efficiency and strengthening its position as a strategic international transport hub.

RIKON enters MHC market

Latvian crane OEM JSC RIKON is expanding again, this time into the mobile harbour crane (MHC) market.

The company has launched its RMH series of “Fully electric mobile harbour cranes”, focusing initially on the midrange in the market by crane size and capacity.

RIKON is offering MHCs with a lifting capacity of up to 200t and a maximum outreach of 60m. The first base models in the series offer a maximum load lifting capacity with a grab load of 75t at an outreach of 10-29m, and 42.9–24.5t at an outreach of 20-48m. In container mode with a single-lift spreader, lifting capacity is 41t at boom reach of 11-34m, and 42.9-24.5t at boom reach of 35-48m.

The base design is a 4-rop variation for container and grab operations. Crane operating classifications according to IOS 4301/1 are A3 for high load capacity mode, A6 for hook handling mode and A7-A8 in grab mode.

RIKON’s design has no luffing cylinder, which RIKON said “significantly reduces service requirements by eliminating hydraulic mechanisms. This ensures a more service-friendly approach while optimizing efficiency.

The crane is also “fully electric”. This means electrical drives for the lifting, luffing and slewing mechanisms, and also for the gantry travel on rubber tyres and the wheel steering system. The only hydraulics on the crane are the cylinders for extending and then raising the crane on the outrigger pads. RIKON says removing hydraulics enhances energy efficiency and protects the environment, and is a key part of its commitment to sustainability.

Along with the new MHC range, RIKON has developed new branding for its products and a new corporate style. These have been launched along with a new website and updated brochures for RIKON’s port handling equipment. This brings together information on RIKON’s approach to crane design and manufacturing, its production resources and products.

The RIKON port handling equipment range now spans double jib level luffing cranes, single jib level luffing cranes, yard gantries (RMGs and RTGS), remote operation and automation systems, mobile harbour cranes, the N-series vessel-mounted cranes and grabs and other attachments.

To date, RIKON has supplied five cranes to “RCT”, originally utilized for coal handling. Over time, however, two RIKON RPS-1600 cranes and one RPS-1680 crane have been successfully repurposed for container handling. Remarkably, despite their initial design for coal operations, RIKON cranes now accommodate nearly all container handling at Riga Central Terminal, highlighting the versatility of the Double Jib Level Luffing Cranes, which can efficiently manage any type of cargo.

In conclusion, RIKON is committed not only to cultivating a strong brand, but also to glorify Latvian industry, as proudly stated by the company’s economic director, Alina Deimonta. RIKON is one of the few companies capable of designing and manufacturing such huge, yet intelligent machines.

Operating since 2019, the “First Dry Port Terminal” specializes in complex terminal services and logistics. Spanning an impressive 22 hectares, the terminal features eight railway tracks totaling 5,300 meters, a covered customs warehouse, an open customs area, customs control zones, and efficient loading and unloading facilities.

Strategically located at the crossroads of international transport corridors “East-West” and “North-South”, the terminal serves as a vital logistics hub. It links Europe to Asia, playing a crucial role as a part of historic Silk Road while providing an essential route for goods from India, Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Middle East to Europe, bypassing the need for transit through the Suez Canal.

RIKON ranked among Latvia’s top 20 exporters

RIKON has proudly secured a place among the top twenty largest exporters of the Republic of Latvia, recognized for its growth in export product volumes, according to the data published by “Dienas Bizness”.

This remarkable achievement can be attributed to the company’s effective operations in two key areas of supply: double jib level luffing cranes and container rail mounted cranes. During the period from 2023 to 2024, contracts totaling €90,672,500 were signed, of which €44,552,500 accounts for the supply of double jib level luffing cranes, while €46,120,000 is attributed to and container rail mounted cranes. This balance underscores the company’s strategic approach to both product types.

In addition, JSC RIKON has developed its own remote-control system for gantry cranes, enabling operators to manage them from their offices. The first cranes of this type were successfully delivered to ADIF, the state-owned company responsible for operating railways, stations, and terminals in Spain. Currently, these cranes are undergoing the commissioning phase.
