CBCT is a digital x-ray scanner specifically designed for scanning the head and jaws. The scanner rotates 360 degrees around the patient's head in a matter of seconds. The x-ray is a low energy fixed anode tube similarly used in panoramic machines. This method reduces radiation scatter common to most conventional x-rays. The cone shaped x-ray provides 360 views that can be presented in 2D image and 3D volume for advanced planning and diagnostic support. This one scan provides more images than plain film conventional imaging, with complete visualization of the patient's entire maxillofacial region. These images clearly display TM disorders, impacted teeth, critical bone and tooth relationships, oral- nasal airways, para-nasal sinus, mandibular canal and difficult to see pathologies within one volume. The user friendly software system reconstructs true size, distortion free, high resolution images. The CBCT scanner is fast, comfortable (nothing goes in the mouth), and painless for patients. It provides a complete set of maxillofacial images with less radiation than conventional orthodontic and medical type CT work-ups. CBCT now can re-create true size cephalometric and panoramic images, virtually eliminating the need for conventional orthodontic x-rays, so your patients will be comforted by the knowledge that you have all the information needed to evaluate and plan their treatment.

Modern humans’ teeth versus ancient humans’ teeth !!

Modern diets are shrinking our jaws and causing horrific teeth teeth issues that our ancestors never faced.

New research from University College Dublin reveals that the modern struggle with crooked teeth and impacted wisdom teeth is a relatively recent phenomenon in human history.

For thousands of years, our hunter-gatherer ancestors possessed wide, robust jaws that comfortably accommodated a full set of teeth without the need for orthodontic intervention.

By analyzing prehistoric skeletal remains, researchers found that malocclusion—the misalignment of teeth—was remarkably rare compared to the dental issues facing society today, highlighting a significant shift in human craniofacial development linked to our changing environment.

The secret to these ancient, perfect smiles lies in the mechanical stress of a prehistoric diet. Hunter-gatherers consumed tough, fibrous foods that required vigorous chewing, a physical process that stimulated jawbone growth and ensured proper dental alignment. As humans transitioned to the soft, processed foods characteristic of modern life, the lack of chewing intensity led to smaller, narrower jaw structures that haven't kept pace with the size of our teeth. This evolutionary mismatch explains why dental crowding has become a global norm, as our mouths are essentially shrinking while our teeth remain the same size.
