Sometimes, asking “How are you?” can be an important beginning.

Emotional suffering is not always visible. A person who appears calm, productive or even cheerful may be struggling with overwhelming pain.
Su***de prevention begins with awareness, compassion and the willingness to take another person's distress seriously.
If someone tells you that they are feeling hopeless, overwhelmed or unable to continue, do not dismiss their words or assume they are “just seeking attention.” Listen without judgment. Stay connected. Encourage them to speak with a mental-health professional or another trusted person who can help.
And if you are struggling, you do not have to carry everything alone. Reaching out is not a weakness. It is an important step towards safety and support.
There is no single conversation that solves every crisis. But a caring conversation can open the door to help.

Notice. Listen. Stay connected. Encourage professional help.

🎒 A HEALTHY SCHOOL BAG DOESN'T HAVE TO BE EXPENSIVE
With the rising cost of living in Lebanon, preparing children for a new school year can put real pressure on young families.
So before going shopping, take a look at what you already have.
Is last year's schoolbag still in good condition?
Are there unused notebooks or pencils?
Can some school clothes be used again?
Let your children take part in this process. It can be a simple lesson in saving, reusing and taking care of what we have.
And most importantly, don't let children feel that their school experience depends on having the newest bag, shoes or brand-name supplies.
School is about learning, growing and making friends — not about competing over what is inside the schoolbag.
A thoughtful back-to-school preparation doesn't have to mean an expensive one.

Literacy is a health issue, too.

When we speak about literacy, we often think about the ability to read and write. But literacy also means being able to understand information, evaluate it and use it to make informed decisions.
Health literacy is particularly important.
Can we understand the instructions on a medication? Do we know when a symptom requires medical attention? Can we distinguish reliable health information from a misleading social-media post? Do we know what questions to ask our doctor?
These abilities can directly affect health outcomes.
In an age when health advice is everywhere—from Facebook posts to WhatsApp messages and online videos—being informed does not simply mean having access to information. It means knowing how to recognise trustworthy information.
Read. Question. Verify. Understand.
Because better health begins with better understanding.

Charity is more than giving. It is caring.

The International Day of Charity reminds us that helping others is not only an act of generosity; it is an expression of solidarity and humanity.
In times of economic difficulty, displacement, illness, uncertainty or personal hardship, even a small gesture can make a meaningful difference. A contribution to a medical need, support for an elderly person, assistance to a family, or simply being present for someone going through a difficult period can restore dignity and hope.
Health is also a matter of solidarity. Many people postpone medical consultations, treatment or medication because of financial difficulties. Supporting health-related charitable initiatives can therefore be an investment in people's lives and well-being.
At AFHIL, we believe that a healthy community is one that does not leave its vulnerable members behind.
On this International Day of Charity, let us ask not only “What can I give?” but also “Who around me may need help?”

Lymph is the drainage system of your entire body, and unlike blood, it has no pump. It moves only when you do.
Every step, every deep breath, every muscular contraction is what keeps it flowing. A sedentary body is stagnant in the most literal sense.
Your daily walk is not optional maintenance: it is the pump.

🎒 BACK TO SCHOOL STARTS BEFORE THE SCHOOLBAG
Going back to school is not only about buying books and stationery.
After weeks of late nights, family visits, outings and relaxed routines, children need some time to get their bodies and minds ready for the school rhythm again.
A few days before school starts, try to:
• Move bedtime and wake-up time gradually earlier.
• Bring meals back to regular times.
• Reduce late-night screen time.
• Get children used to waking up earlier without stress and shouting.
• Make time for play and physical activity during the day.
Don't try to change everything overnight.
A child who arrives at school rested and prepared will have a much better start than one who begins the year already exhausted.
And remember: the first days back should be a gentle transition, not a battle.

A healthy lifestyle includes taking care of your skin, but you don't need a complex, expensive routine. Evidence-based skincare, as recommended by dermatologists, typically focuses on a minimalist approach using just a few effective products. By cutting out the noise and focusing on the core essentials that actually work, you can maintain skin health productively and efficiently. Focusing on a simple, consistent routine is often more effective than constantly trying new, unproven products

Staying consistent with necessary medications or supplements is often the hardest part of a health regimen. To remove the "faf" of handling multiple bottles daily, use a weekly pill organizer (or dossett box). Filling it once a week ensures that taking your multivitamins, probiotics, or medications becomes a seamless part of your routine. This simple organizational tool acts as a visual reminder and helps you stay on track with your health goals without having to think about it every day.
