A good seal can be damaged before the machine even runs.

Cleanliness, surface condition and the correct installation method matter. Follow the equipment and seal manufacturer’s instructions for fitting tools and compatible lubrication. Carry out maintenance only with the equipment safely isolated and pressure released.

USH: the profile name is only the starting point.

The USH profile is used in suitable piston and rod sealing applications. Confirm the dimensions, groove and operating conditions before selecting a replacement. A shared profile name does not make every size or material interchangeable.

New seal. Same leak? Look beyond the replacement.

Repeated leakage can have more than one cause. Surface damage, operating conditions and installation issues should be investigated alongside the seal itself. A photograph can support an enquiry, but cannot establish the root cause on its own.

One assembly. Different jobs.

The DAS/KDAS compact piston seal combines a sealing element, back-up rings and guide rings. The elements work together in a double-acting hydraulic cylinder; replacing the assembly means matching its profile and housing, not selecting a ring by appearance.

Start with the nameplate.

Match the seal to the motion.

A rotary shaft turns within the seal. In a reciprocating application, the rod or piston moves back and forth. These movements create different sealing requirements.

When you enquire, describe how the part moves and where the seal is installed. A similar size does not establish suitability for a different motion.

More than a diameter.

Inside diameter, outside diameter and width help describe a seal. Its profile and measurement units are just as important when identifying a replacement.

Mark whether the measurements are in millimetres or inches, and explain if they were taken from a worn sample.

Send the measurements together with a clear profile photo.

Two seals can look alike without having the same material or suitability. Selection needs the profile, dimensions, operating fluid and service conditions.

A clear photo helps identify a part, but it cannot confirm material compatibility on its own. Add the reference and any known operating requirements.
