That was one of the challenges faced by Chungnam Social Economy Innovation Town, which supports a wide variety of food products requiring different label designs, shapes, and quantities.

Would you turn down a 100-label order?

For many print shops, the answer may be yes—and the reason is understandable.

A small job can still require artwork review, setup, test printing, cutting, inspection, packing, and administration. If those costs are not reflected in the price, the margin disappears quickly.

But a small first order can also be the customer’s way of testing a supplier.

In one recent example, eight out of ten companies required a minimum order of 500 stickers. The supplier that accepted 100 delivered quickly and produced good quality.

When the customer later needed another design in a higher quantity, there was no new search and no new comparison.

The order went straight back to the same supplier.

The point is not that every small job should be accepted.

The point is that short-run profitability depends on more than quantity. Setup time, changeover, pricing, and workflow efficiency all matter.
