**** Important Parts Of Car To Maintain During Rains ***
Tyres Care
Very importantly one has to make sure that the tyres are in excellent condition before the monsoons arrive. The tread depth should be good enough or else they are likely to skid over slippery surfaces. Rubber has a tendency to soften when coming in contact with water so one should check the tyre pressure regularly and inflate it to the pressure as recommended by the manufacturer. This regular check will not only ensure better driving comfort but good tyre life as well.
Wipers And Washer
Wipers are extremely important in rainy season and they are good when they are new. Within a year the rubber strip becomes useless and it is recommended to change it every year before the monsoons begin. One should ensure that the rubber is not hard and does not have cracks as they will bring scratches on the windscreen. Do check that the wipers are working properly at all the three speeds. The washer bottle should be filled up and if you want you can add a mild detergent which will help keep the windshield glass clean and oil free.
Brakes
Brake calipers are the most crucial part of a car and you should regularly clean and replace,if needed, the calipers to keep them dirt free. Brakes should not be too tight or too loose and you should keep using them as water will most likely wet the brake drums, therefore reducing braking efficiency. One small tip for drying out brakes is by placing your left foot on the brake pedal and gently moving the throttle in, using your right foot.
Body
Protect your car’s body from rain and apply a good wax polish. The wax will not only protect the paint but will also allow water to roll off easily. Greasing all the door hinges is also necessary. To prevent rusting on exposed metal parts you can spray anti-moisture spray like WD40, Zorric, Rusklick etc. If the rubber lining on the doors is falling loose, replace them before the rains start.
Electricals
If you see any loose or weak electrical connections, patch them up. Make sure external wires are insulated. Also ensure that all the fuses are working fine and do carry some extra fuses. Check all the lights, it is advisable to keep your parking light and brake light on while driving.
Interiors
At times water flows into the cabin area and damages carpets and flooring. Place another set of mats(old mats) so that they soak up the dirty water. And it is better to use fabric mats than rubber mats. Use a vacuum cleaner to clean the car daily so that there is no bad odour left and in case your seats get wet, keep the windows open so that no fungus develops over there.

DID YOU KNOW***

Clocking is the illegal practice of winding back the odometer on a high–mileage car to increase its apparent value and asking price. Every 1,000 miles removed increases the value substantially. This practice is common especially for imports from Japan and is usually done upon entry in Mombasa. However, there is a simple way to check for original milage at the Jevic website and all you need to supply is the chassis number of the car. Jevic E-certificates help combat odometer fraud by allowing the end user the ability to check their vehicle inspection record online and thus verify the vehicle's mileage at the time of inspection in Japan. If the vehicle shows less mileage than what the certificate shows - RUN like a dog without a tail! Go here for JEVIC E-Cert.

Kindly note that the E-certs are only available for vehicles inspected after July 1, 2011. For older vehicles you may have to rely on your best judgement and your mechanic's evaluation of the vehicle's condition at the time of purchase.

What does your car mean to you?

How you view your car may determine how well you tend to treat it. If you see it as a mere conveyance, you may give it little thought. If you consider it a proud possession, you probably will be more attentive. *** But no matter how you relate to your vehicle, it is important to care for it in specific ways that will maintain its reliability, preserve its drivability and protect its resale value.

Did you know...
You can get the best mileage possible from your vehicle by keeping it in top shape and using some easy fuel-saving ideas.

1.Tire Pressure: Under inflation or over inflation can lead to decreased fuel mileage.
2. Air Filters: Dirty air filters cause your engine to run at less than peak efficiency which increases your fuel consumption.
3. Oil: Using the correct oil weight is important. Higher viscosity oils have greater resistance to the moving parts of the engine and therefore use more gas.
