Chemoquip was founded in 1992. Thirty-four years later we are doing the same work: supplying and servicing laboratories across Kenya — clinical, industrial, education and research.

What has changed is the equipment. What has not is that a laboratory needs someone who will still be there in five years to service it.

Cold-chain failures rarely announce themselves. The kit is in date, the run looks normal, and the drift shows up weeks later in the QC chart.

Four things worth checking this week:

1. Reagents on shelves, not in the door — the door is the warmest and most variable part of the fridge.
2. A daily temperature log, so an excursion is recorded rather than remembered.
3. Space for air to circulate. A crammed fridge holds pockets that never reach the set temperature.
4. Storage ranges read per reagent, not applied as a house rule.

Today is World Heart Day.

More than half of Kenyan adults — 56% — have never had their blood pressure measured. (Kenya STEPwise Survey for NCDs, 2015)

The cost does not disappear — it just arrives unplanned, usually in the same month as something else.

A maintenance contract turns it into one number: scheduled preventive visits through the year, corrective callouts included in the contract, and a figure your finance team can plan against.

The pipette is the most used instrument in the laboratory and the least often questioned.

Four ways error creeps in:

A tip that is not properly seated — it leaks air and volume. Seat it, do not force it.

Too fast on the plunger — aspirate and dispense slowly and evenly.

No calibration schedule — a pipette drifts. Without a schedule you cannot say by how much.

Cold or warm liquid — temperature changes volume. Let reagents equilibrate first.

Small errors, repeated hundreds of times a day.

Chemoquip welcomed three of our international principals to Nairobi this week — EKF Diagnostics, HiMedia and Erba Mannheim — each presenting their line to East African laboratories alongside our team.

For laboratory directors and managers, an event like this answers a question a brochure cannot: who stands behind the equipment once it's installed? Our principals travelled to meet customers face to face. Chemoquip has been the local end of that answer since 1992 — supply, installation, user training and after-sales technical service across Kenya and the region.

Thank you to every customer and partner who visited the stand. Conversations started at WHX don't have to end there.
