▪️ During Jomo's 15 years reign, the KES remained stable against the USD

▪️ The KES depreciated significantly between 1979 and 2002; when it was recording an annual average depreciation of 38% (but mainly from 1982)

▪️ Between 1979 and 1982, the KES remain strong and stable against the USD, but a free-fall started thereafter

▪️ The Kibaki Regime managed to stabilize the currency, and between 2004 and 2007, KES gained significantly from 79 KES/USD to 69 KES/USD

▪️ However, the KES started a fall in 2008, with minor fluctuations till until it hit 84.5 KES/USD when Kibaki left

▪️ Overall, the KES lost by an average of 1% during Kibaki's Tenure, nearly the same as during Jomo's Tenure

▪️ Enter Uhuru when the KES lost by an average of 4% during his 10 years tenure

▪️ Finally, in the past 18 Months of Ruto's Reign, the KES has lost on average 18% of it's value against the USD

▪️ Overall, KES has lost by 33% in the past 18 Months (ie. Sep 2022 to Feb 2024)

Have you ever wondered how that man You call 'Fool' managed to overtake you in life; That’s the question that many people keep wondering in the minds when they turn 50. They know very well that they studied hard, worked hard and lived a generally organized life. What they really can’t figure out is how that rugged looking, unschooled tout in the street managed to build an economy 100 times better than theirs. How did that D- (Minus) material manage to own acres and acres of real estate? Or how did that mtumba seller manage to build a bungalow while I am still struggling to pay for a mortgaged two bedroom apartment?

The sad reality is that conventional measures of success, such as education and societal expectations, don't always dictate the outcomes. In the complex tapestry of life, it's the unexpected players who manage to make a series of remarkable moves, leaving those who thought they had it all figured out in a state of contemplative wonder.
