The Antarctic: Syowa Station Crew Report_vol.6
Hello everyone.
I’m the engineer responsible for generator engines with the 67th Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition.
At the end of January this year, the wintering party changeover ceremony took place, and I officially took over the operation of the generator engines at Syowa Station from the 66th expedition.
At Syowa Station in Antarctica, Yanmar generators are in operation providing essential infrastructure for daily life, including electricity, heating, and hot water.
For this reason, Yanmar sends an employee every year to the National Institute of Polar Research to join the Antarctic Research expedition, where we are responsible for the maintenance and management of the generator engines.
Operating the generator engines is a mission with great responsibility, but I will do my best while keeping safety as the top priority.

After the wintering party changeover ceremony, the 66th expedition and the 67th summer party quickly left Syowa Station by helicopter. Only the 29 members of the wintering party remained, and the once lively station suddenly felt very quiet…

About The Antarctic: Syowa Station Crew Report
Yanmar began its support of the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition in 1983.
For over 40 years, we have not only supplied generators but also dispatched engineers to the National Institute of Polar Research as generator operators for the overwintering teams.
In the harsh natural environment of the Antarctic, Engineers from Yanmar have played a vital role in ensuring the stable operation of power equipment, making a significant contribution to the safety of the crew and the continuity of Japan’s Antarctic research activities.
Through Yanmar’s official social media, we will regularly share real voices and scenes from the current wintering party under the title “The Antarctic: Syowa Station Crew Report.”
Curious about what kind of work is done in the Antarctic? How the crew live there? Don’t miss it! ☑
