Kick-Off Meeting Successfully Held for Vientiane Airport Improvement Project

On 27 March 2026, the Kick-Off Meeting for The Project for Improvement of Vientiane Airport, a Japanese Grant Aid Project, was successfully held at the DCA Conference Room in Vientiane, Lao PDR.

Gyros Corporation is honored to serve as the Lead Consultant in a joint venture with Azusa Sekkei. The project is being implemented with Hazama Ando Corporation as the contractor, under the leadership of the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA).

The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including the JICA Laos Office, DCA, Airports of Laos (AOL), L-JATS, LANS, and ATS, marking a strong start to collaboration on the project.

Project Overview:
This project officially commenced today and is scheduled for completion in April 2028. The scope includes:
• Expansion of the international departure lounge
• Installation of an arrival baggage claim belt in the domestic terminal
• Rehabilitation of apron and taxiway pavements
• Rehabilitation of the aeronautical ground lighting system

第8回 Japanコンストラクション国際賞「最優秀賞」受賞！

このたび、国土交通省主催の「第8回 Japanコンストラクション国際賞」において、「ソロモン諸島国ホニアラ国際空港整備計画」が建設・開発プロジェクト部門における最優秀賞を受賞しました。

本プロジェクトは、北野建設株式会社、株式会社江平建築事務所、株式会社オリエンタルコンサルタンツグローバル、株式会社ジャイロスの4社による協力体制のもと、JICA（国際協力機構）の無償資金協力スキームにより実施されました。

プロジェクトの概要
老朽化が進んでいたホニアラ国際空港の国際線旅客ターミナルビルや滑走路、排水施設等の刷新を通じて、安全性・利便性・防災性を高め、ソロモン諸島の持続可能な観光・経済発展に貢献する重要インフラ整備プロジェクトです。

国際協力のモデルケースとして
単なるインフラ整備にとどまらず、「人材育成」「気候変動対策」「文化との調和」といった観点を取り入れた国際協力のモデルとして評価されました。

Gyrosは、本プロジェクトにおいて全体計画調整および設計・施工監理支援を担当し、現地の実情に寄り添いながら持続可能で実効性のある整備を目指してきました。

今後もGyrosは、「日本の知見で世界の空港を支える」を使命に、誠実で持続可能な国際インフラ整備に貢献してまいります。

Winner of the 8th Japan Construction International Award (Grand Prize)

We are proud to announce that the “Project for Improvement of Honiara International Airport, Solomon Islands” has received the Grand Prize in the Construction & Development Project Category at the 8th Japan Construction International Award, hosted by Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT).

This honor was awarded to the joint team of Kitano Construction Corp., Ehiraira Architects, Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd., and Gyros Corporation, who implemented the project under the JICA Grant Aid scheme.

Project Overview
The project aimed to improve deteriorated facilities at Honiara International Airport—including the international passenger terminal building, runway, and drainage systems—to enhance safety, resilience, and operational efficiency, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of the Solomon Islands’ tourism and economy.

A Model for Sustainable International Cooperation
The project was recognized not only for its infrastructure improvements but also for its emphasis on human resource development, climate resilience, and cultural harmony, establishing it as a model case of Japan’s international cooperation in infrastructure.

Gyros played a central role in overall coordination, design supervision, and construction management support, ensuring that the solutions were both technically sound and aligned with the local context.

FS project for the Expansion of the Passenger Terminal Building at Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal

Gyros Corporation (Head Office: Fuchu City, Tokyo; President and CEO: Takao Yamaguchi) is pleased to announce that, on August 1, 2025, its FS (Feasibility Study) project for the expansion of the passenger terminal building at Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal has been selected for the FY2024 Supplementary Global South Future-Oriented Co-Creation Project Subsidy (Small-Scale Demonstration/FS Projects) by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan.

This selected project aims to conduct a feasibility study for the planned expansion of the passenger terminal building at Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal to meet future increases in air traffic demand. The goal is to establish an export model for airport infrastructure utilizing Japan's design, construction, and operation technologies, while also building a public-private collaboration framework with local stakeholders. Through this initiative, the project seeks to promote the overseas expansion of Japanese companies and contribute to international development.

Project Milestone Update – Vientiane International Airport Improvement Project

We are pleased to announce that the Bidding Documents for The Project for the Improvement of Vientiane International Airport in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic have been officially approved by the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA).

This important milestone was marked by the official signing of the approval by Mr. Khamla Phommavanh, Director General of DCA and Mr. Takao Yamaguchi, President of Gyros Corporation.

The project is being implemented under Japan’s Grant Aid scheme to improve the safety, capacity, and resilience of Vientiane International Airport, the country’s main international gateway.

The consulting services for the project are being provided by a consortium of Gyros Corporation and Azusa Sekkei, which has worked in close coordination with DCA, JICA, and other stakeholders to finalize the bidding documents in accordance with international standards.

We sincerely thank all parties involved for their cooperation and support. We now move forward to the tendering stage with great anticipation.
