Difference Between NCR and SOR in Construction Projects
In construction projects, maintaining quality and compliance is key. Two important tools to achieve this are NCR (Non-Conformance Report) and SOR (Site Observation Report). While both address site-related issues, they differ in purpose and approach:
1. NCR (Non-Conformance Report) • Purpose: Issued when work or materials fail to meet project specifications, standards, or approved designs • Focus: Reacts to non-compliance issues that require corrective action, • Impact: Aims to rectify errors and prevent delays or rework. • Examples: • Incorrect materials used, • Work deviating from approved drawings
2. SOR (Site Observation Report) • Purpose: Documents observations of potential risks or areas for improvement on-site. •Focus: Proactive tool to highlight minor issues before they escalate. ‣ Impact: Promotes safety, efficiency, and quality awareness.
• Examples: • Incorrect materials used. • Work deviating from approved drawings
2. SOR (Site Observation Report) •Purpose: Documents observations of potential risks or areas for improvement on-site. • Focus: Proactive tool to highlight minor issues before they escalate. • Impact: Promotes safety, efficiency, and quality awareness. • Examples: • Minor safety hazards •Early signs of defects.
Key Difference • NCR is corrective, addressing non-conformities after they occur: • SOR is preventive, aiming to identify and resolve issues early:
