The peak temperature is not the problem. The delta between cells is.
A battery pack tends to age at the rate of its most stressed cells. If one cell runs at 35°C and its neighbour at 45°C during the same duty cycle, they don't just degrade at different rates — they pull the whole pack toward the shorter life curve.
That's why thermal management, at pack level, is not about keeping temperature "low enough". It's about keeping it uniform across cells.
The design decisions that follow are structural, not cosmetic:
👉 cold plate geometry and coolant flow distribution
👉 cell positioning and interface materials
👉 ΔT targets defined per operating cycle, not per component
A pack designed for average performance and a pack designed for uniform performance can share the same cell — and end up with two different service lives.
Thermal uniformity is not a thermal problem. It's a system integration problem.
