The restoration of the historic rowing launch “Tiziana” of the Istituto Nautico Galvani has been completed, bringing back to life a valuable piece of Trieste’s maritime history.

The vessel has been officially inaugurated and returned to the students for seamanship activities and rowing team training.

Congratulations and glad to be there

We are truly proud and delighted to see the ship we designed sailing for her first LNG loading operation.

⚠️ Loss of vacuum in LH₂ double-wall tanks: are you ready? 💡❗

🚢 Making the transport of hydrogen and liquefied gases safer and more technologically advanced is the goal achieved by ROMVessel, a project developed through the collaboration between Trieste-based companies MES and ENGYS, and co-funded by SMACT Competence Center under the IRISS call.
💡 The innovation behind the project lies in an application that integrates advanced CFD and FEM simulations with Reduced Order Models (ROM). This approach enables highly complex thermo-fluid dynamic analyses—typically requiring hours or even days of computation—to be performed in just a few seconds.
The model has been developed and validated through scaled experimental activities designed to replicate real onboard conditions. This has allowed for accurate calibration of numerical tools and ensures the reliability of the results in a marine environment.
In a sector where managing extreme temperatures is a key challenge, this technology allows designers to “explore” in real time the thermal behavior of tanks and vessels through an interactive graphical interface. 💻🔬
ROMVessel not only accelerates design processes but also provides a higher level of technical awareness. It enables precise prediction of temperature distribution and the evaluation of critical scenarios, ensuring maximum safety even in the event of failures in the insulation systems of double-wall tanks, typically used for the transport of liquefied hydrogen. ✅
The result is a design approach capable of meeting the stringent challenges posed by transporting gases at extremely low temperatures.
🤝 The project has been carried out in partnership with the University of Trieste, FAST COMPUTING srl Società Benefit, and under the coordination of M.A.R.E. TC FVG – Maritime, Aerospace, Renewable Energies Technology Cluster FVG.

🚢 ROMVessel: an integrated approach for advanced design of cryogenic tanks in the naval sector

The ROMVessel project, developed through the collaboration between MES and ENGYS, with the support of the University of Trieste and FAST COMPUTING Srl Società Benefit, and coordinated by M.A.R.E. TC FVG, has successfully reached completion.

The initiative introduced an advanced approach to the design of naval structures for the containment and transport of cryogenic fluids, based on the integration of:

🔹 FEM
🔹 CFD
🔹 Reduced Order Models (ROM)

The results confirm the robustness of the developed methodology and its strong potential for engineering applications, thanks to the systematic comparison between numerical simulations and experimental data.

👉 From MES perspective, the experimental phase enabled a detailed characterization of temperature distribution within hull structures and the identification of thermal peaks, providing a solid benchmark against traditional methodologies.

👉 From ENGYS perspective, the developed models demonstrated strong predictive capability, with a significant alignment between experimental data and CFD results.
Furthermore, the development of ROM models made it possible to:

⚡ drastically reduce computation times
⚡ bring complex thermofluid dynamic analyses directly into the design phase

A significant step forward toward more efficient, predictive, and sustainable ship design. 🌍

Many thanks to our Partners for their valuable contributions

To our Chinese colleagues at MES, may this Yang year bring energy, determination and shared success.新年快乐,万事如意!

Congratulations on the successful first LNG bunkering operation in the Port of Genoa.

A successful first operation together with HAM Italia, involving the supply of 600 m³ of LNG in the Port of Genoa using twelve road tankers.

Green Pearl is the result of a project developed by MES, designed with a strong focus on performance, efficiency and real operational needs.

Seeing Green Pearl in operation today is a tangible confirmation of the engineering work carried out during the design phase and of the effective collaboration between all stakeholders, which made it possible to bring the construction of this type of vessel back to Italy 🇮🇹
