🚢 ROMVessel: an integrated approach for advanced design of cryogenic tanks in the naval sector
The ROMVessel project, developed through the collaboration between MES and ENGYS, with the support of the University of Trieste and FAST COMPUTING Srl Società Benefit, and coordinated by M.A.R.E. TC FVG, has successfully reached completion.
The initiative introduced an advanced approach to the design of naval structures for the containment and transport of cryogenic fluids, based on the integration of:
🔹 FEM
🔹 CFD
🔹 Reduced Order Models (ROM)
The results confirm the robustness of the developed methodology and its strong potential for engineering applications, thanks to the systematic comparison between numerical simulations and experimental data.
👉 From MES perspective, the experimental phase enabled a detailed characterization of temperature distribution within hull structures and the identification of thermal peaks, providing a solid benchmark against traditional methodologies.
👉 From ENGYS perspective, the developed models demonstrated strong predictive capability, with a significant alignment between experimental data and CFD results.
Furthermore, the development of ROM models made it possible to:
⚡ drastically reduce computation times
⚡ bring complex thermofluid dynamic analyses directly into the design phase
A significant step forward toward more efficient, predictive, and sustainable ship design. 🌍
